To support our business, we are seeking an experienced Electrical Systems Engineer to strengthen system-level electrical capability within the Suzhou R&D team. This role will lead electrical architecture definition, analog and optoelectronic signal-chain development, and early technical risk reduction for next-generation color measurement instruments. The engineer will work across optics, firmware, mechanical engineering, research, test, and manufacturing to turn product requirements into robust, manufacturable system solutions.

Essential duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical system architecture and interface definition for spectrophotometers, colorimeters, and color imaging instruments.
  • Translate product and system requirements into electrical specifications, architecture options, design targets, and verification methods.
  • Define and evaluate electrical architecture options, providing technical recommendations for system-level design decisions.
  • Lead analog and mixed-signal design, including sensor interfaces, photodetector front ends, amplification, filtering, ADC selection, reference circuits, power design, and grounding strategy.
  • Design and evaluate illumination driver circuits, including control strategies and stability considerations.
  • Evaluate electrical and optoelectronic design trade-offs across performance, cost, manufacturability, schedule, reliability, and technical risk.
  • Plan and execute feasibility studies, proof-of-concept builds, simulations, and early experiments to reduce technical risks before detailed development.
  • Perform system-level analysis and troubleshooting related to noise, signal integrity, timing, EMC/ESD/EFT, power integrity, and high-voltage circuits.
  • Develop and review electrical design documentation, including schematics, component selections, BOMs, PCB designs, and engineering calculations.
  • Lead or participate in architecture reviews, design reviews, and technical risk assessments.
  • Collaborate closely with optics, firmware, mechanical, software, research, test, quality, and manufacturing teams to optimize overall instrument performance.
  • Support design verification, prototype builds, root-cause investigations, corrective actions, and production transfer activities.
  • Identify and evaluate third-party technologies, components, and reference designs for future product platforms.
  • Develop and document test protocols, procedures, and technical reports.
  • Analyze measurement data and work with firmware or algorithm teams on signal processing, calibration strategies and system level performance optimization.
  • Own hands-on system prototyping and bring-up, integrating optics, sensors, analog electronics, embedded hardware, firmware, and other elements into working proof-of-concept systems.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Instrumentation, Optoelectronics, Applied Physics, or a related field.
  • Typically 5+ years of relevant hands-on product development or applied research experience, including ownership of complex designs from concept through verification and production transfer. Exceptional candidates with strong research, prototyping, and system problem-solving experience will also be considered.
  • Strong experience in analog and mixed-signal circuit design, preferably involving optical sensors, photodiodes, low-level signals, precision measurement, or scientific instrumentation.
  • Experience with ADC selection, analog front-end design, low-noise design, grounding and shielding, signal integrity, and power integrity.
  • Experience with microcontrollers, embedded hardware interfaces, and common communication buses such as I2C, SPI, UART, USB, and Ethernet.
  • Experience with EMC, ESD, EFT, safety, reliability, and regulatory design considerations for commercial or industrial products.
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB design/review tools such as Altium Designer; ability to review PCB placement, routing, and stack-up decisions.
  • Ability to use oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, precision source/measurement equipment, and other laboratory instruments for structured debugging.
  • Strong analytical and root-cause problem-solving skills, with the ability to connect component-level behavior to system-level performance.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across functions, locations, and cultures.
  • Ability to manage priorities, evaluate technical trade-offs, make sound decisions and follow through on commitments.
