Job Description

General Purpose:

Perform electrical maintenance task on plant utility and process infrastructure. Install and repair electrical systems, apparatus, electrical components, and electronic components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints and other specifications. Work with limited degree of supervision, with oversight focused on complex and/or new assignments. Act as an informal resource for colleagues with less experience.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

§ Programs, troubleshoots, and operates programmable controllers, distributive control systems and interlocking systems.

§ Installs equipment for new electrical services (120v, 240v, and 480v three phase), including wiring, conduit, panels, breakers, contactors, relays, times and controls.

§ Performs electrical troubleshooting, maintenance and repair work; installs or replaces circuit breakers, fuses, variable speed

§ Performs and assists in all operations maintenance activities. All applicable work is done in accordance with National, State and Local Electrical Codes.

§ Sets an effective pace and minimizes interruptions to the process.

§ Participates in safety programs and safety training and demonstrates total commitment and compliance with all Company Safety and Sanitation policies.

§ Uses the Company's computerized maintenance management system (e.g., SAP) to record and access maintenance related information.

§ Works on electrical equipment including but not limited to Frequency Ddrives (VFDs) Contactors, overload devices, fixtures, switches, receptacles, and wiring.

§ Performs preventive maintenance on electrical equipment, distribution systems, motor control centers, and motors.

§ Must successfully pass Master License for the state of New Mexico within 6 months of hire date.

§ Thorough knowledge of electrical codes, practices, and techniques, tools, and equipment.

§ Considerable knowledge of and ability to use standard hand and power tools and equipment used in electrical maintenance activities. Ability to use ladders, scaffolding, and operate hand and power tools in a safe, efficient manner.

§ Considerable knowledge and application of safety standards and precautions pertaining to electrical work.

§ Ability to work from sketches, drawings, and blueprints.

§ Required to perform work on site automation system to the component level, including components that require 0-10 volt signal or 4-20 milliamp signal repair.

§ Wear PPE at all times and observe health, safety and environmental policies

§ Attend departmental training, such as safety and equipment training.

§ Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including heavy work with exposure to inclement weather conditions.

§ Willingness to be on call and work long hours, if necessary, in case of serious network malfunction.

§ Perform related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Graduation from trade school or technical school in related discipline or equivalent apprenticeship.
  • 2 to 4 years of electrical maintenance experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment, and automation system maintenance experience
  • Certification and/or License – Electrician journeyman license or other location specific electrician license; master electrician preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Thorough knowledge of electrical codes, practices, techniques, tools, and equipment

· Knowledge and application of national, state, local building codes, OSHA, and standard industry safety rules/regulations pertaining to electrical work

· Able to use standard hand and power tools and equipment used in electrical maintenance activities

· Able to use to use ladders and scaffolding in a safe, efficient manner

· Able to work from sketches, drawings, and blueprints

· Able to inspect equipment, recognize potential problems, and take appropriate corrective action to prevent component failures or equipment down time

· Able to perform electrical activities/repairs independently and assist on more complicated repairs

· Able to complete minor to mid-sized projects from planning to installation

· Able to present options and ideas to current processes or procedures

· Able to perform task and duties without constant supervision

· Able to work effectively in a team environment

· Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing

· Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

· Basic computer skills

· Must be able to read, write and speak English
