Lead Power Systems Engineer - Remote
Our client is a leading provider and manufacturer of industrial Electrical Power equipment used in industrial applications for mission critical operations. They help their customers save money by reducing energy and operating costs and provide solutions for modernizing their customer's existing Electrical infrastructure. This senior level role will partner with internal engineering teams, clients, and external stakeholders to lead and deliver electrical power system studies for data centers and other mission critical facilities. Projects span from early stage feasibility and grid impact assessments through detailed design support and implementation. The engineer will serve as a subject matter expert for power system studies, contribute to business development and strategic growth initiatives, and represent the organization as a technical leader within the industry. This position requires deep experience with power system analysis, strong client facing skills, and the ability to guide teams and projects with limited oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Lead power system studies for mission critical data center and large scale electrical infrastructure projects
  • Independently perform and oversee load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, dynamic, and transient stability studies
  • Evaluate impacts of large data center loads on transmission and distribution systems, including grid interconnection considerations
  • Assess equipment capabilities, ratings, and conditions including transformers, circuit breakers, relays, and other power system components
  • Produce technical reports and final deliverables including breaker settings tables, TCCs, and arc flash labels
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, supporting training and professional development
  • Execute complex project scopes with minimal supervision and provide high level direction to design and study teams
  • Support proposal development including defining project scope, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements
  • Identify market opportunities within the data center sector and support business development and client engagement efforts
  • Serve as a primary technical point of contact for clients, utilities, developers, and regulatory organizations
  • Participate in industry forums, working groups, and standards organizations to maintain technical leadership and visibility
  • Perform QA and QC peer reviews for studies and projects not directly authored
  • Optimize workflows and deliverables through development of standards, templates, and automation tools
  • Manage project resources, schedules, and priorities to meet technical and commercial objectives
  • Identify potential scope changes and assist in developing strategies to minimize cost and schedule impacts
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; Master’s degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical power system studies, utility planning, or mission critical infrastructure engineering
  • Professional Engineer license or EIT strongly preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical power distribution systems associated with mission critical facilities and data centers
  • Experience performing transmission and distribution system studies, grid impact assessments, and interconnection analysis
  • Advanced understanding of protective devices including relays, circuit breakers, and fuses and their coordination and settings
  • Strong knowledge of power system equipment ratings, capabilities, and operating conditions
  • Subject matter expertise in industry codes and standards including NESC, NERC, IEEE, IEC, and related guidelines
  • Experience with power system modeling and simulation software such as ETAP, PSS E, PSCAD, SKM, or EasyPower
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and client communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of initiative and accountability
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Client facing experience with the ability to build and maintain trusted relationships
  • Previous military experience or veteran status is a strong plus
