Electrical Platform and Manufacturing Engineer
TWG Warehouse Services | Chicago, IL (On-site)
TWG Warehouse Services, a subsidiary of The Will Group, is seeking an Electrical Platform and Manufacturing Engineer to lead the design, development, and manufacturing readiness of a UL 67–compliant panelboard product line. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who thrives in environments where products are built, tested, and refined on the shop floor—not just on paper.
Nearly four decades after its founding, The Will Group has grown into a family of companies serving the construction and utility industries through supply, engineering, manufacturing, and program management. TWG Warehouse Services was founded in 2008 and is known for its work supporting major municipal and utility programs, including the City of Chicago’s Blocks Program, the Chicago Smart Lighting Program, and ComEd’s Suburban Street Light Program. We were built on a commitment to community, customers, and employees.
About the Role
This position owns the electrical design authority and manufacturing execution for a UL 67 panelboard platform, while also setting architectural guardrails that support future certifications such as UL 891, UL 845, and UL 1558. This is not a compliance-only or advisory role. You will design the product, define how it is built, support UL testing, and ensure design intent carries cleanly into production.
What You’ll Do
• Lead end-to-end electrical and mechanical design of UL 67 panelboard products, including schematics, layouts, bus design, and compartmentalization
• Define scalable design standards, reference architectures, and modular product families
• Create and maintain controlled engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, and ECNs
• Translate designs into manufacturable work instructions, assembly processes, and test plans
• Establish wiring standards, torque requirements, labeling, and inspection criteria aligned with UL expectations
• Prepare and manage UL submission packages, witness testing, and follow-up inquiries
• Act as the engineering interface with UL inspectors and third-party test agents
• Map certification dependencies across UL 67, UL 891, UL 845, and UL 1558 and flag technical risks early
• Partner closely with fabrication, assembly, and shop leadership to ensure safe, high-quality execution
• Drive continuous improvement focused on efficiency, cost reduction, and product quality
What We’re Looking For
Required qualifications include:
• 6–8 years of experience in electrical or electromechanical product design for industrial power distribution
• Direct experience developing UL 67 panelboards from concept through listing
• Strong CAD skills using SolidWorks, Autodesk, or similar tools
• Deep understanding of bus systems, SCCR, insulation systems, and enclosure design
• Experience preparing technical documentation for UL or other NRTLs
• Comfort working in environments with limited existing engineering infrastructure
• Familiarity with shop operations such as bus fabrication, wiring, welding, and assembly
Preferred qualifications include:
• Experience with UL 891, UL 845, MCCs, or fault containment architectures
• Prior interaction with UL, ETL, or other certification bodies
• Product lifecycle ownership in a manufacturing environment
• PE license or active pursuit
• Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, and manufacturing quality systems
Why Join TWG
You’ll have direct ownership of a product platform with real-world impact, visibility across the organization, and the ability to shape how products are designed and built from the ground up. This role offers autonomy, influence, and the opportunity to create a certification runway that supports long-term growth.
Location and Schedule
This is a full-time, on-site position based at our K-Town Business Centre in Chicago, five days per week.
Compensation and Benefits
The good-faith salary range for this role is $120,000–$130,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. TWG offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) with company match, generous PTO, paid volunteer time off, paid holidays, and continuing education reimbursement.
