About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Maintenance Technician – Water / Desalination to join a major industrial water/desalination operation.
The role will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting the plant's electrical systems and equipment, including MV/LV switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, motors, transformers, pumps, UPS systems, and electrical control systems.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on industrial electrical maintenance experience and be comfortable working in a plant environment, including preventive maintenance, emergency breakdowns, commissioning, shutdowns, and electrical isolation activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment and systems.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain:
- Motors and pumps
- Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- MV/LV switchgear
- Power transformers
- LV/MV power distribution systems
- Electrical panels and control circuits
- PLC and SCADA-related electrical components
- UPS systems
- Inspect, test, and maintain electrical panels, breakers, protection relays, and control circuits.
- Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on MV and LV switchgear and VFDs.
- Conduct insulation resistance testing using appropriate test equipment.
- Support maintenance and testing of protection relays and circuit breakers.
- Carry out electrical isolation and de-isolation activities in accordance with approved procedures.
- Assist with plant startup, shutdown, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Monitor plant electrical performance and identify potential equipment failures.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, control schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Ensure compliance with LOTO, Permit-to-Work, and electrical safety procedures.
- Coordinate with Operations, Mechanical, and Instrumentation teams to minimize plant downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and spare-parts information.
- Respond to emergency electrical breakdowns and support shift-based maintenance when required.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma, ITI, or Technical Certificate in Electrical Engineering / Electrical Technology.
- 3–5+ years of hands-on industrial electrical maintenance experience.
- Strong experience with MV and LV electrical systems.
- Hands-on experience with switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, motors, transformers, and circuit breakers.
- Experience with electrical protection relays and associated equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical control schematics and single-line diagrams.
- Experience with electrical testing, including insulation resistance testing.
- Knowledge of LOTO and electrical isolation/de-isolation procedures.
- Knowledge of Permit-to-Work and industrial electrical safety procedures.
Preferred Experience
- Water treatment, wastewater treatment, or desalination plant experience.
- Experience with RO plant equipment, particularly high-pressure and feed-water pumps.
- PLC and SCADA exposure.
- Experience with generators and UPS systems.
- Experience in plant commissioning, startup, and shutdown activities.
