Electrical Lead

Where will you work: - K3, Esterhazy, Saskatchewan, Canada

About the role

Leads and manages electrical power system maintenance at the Esterhazy K3 site, partnering with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to ensure system reliability and performance. Applies asset health and reliability tools (e.g., MOC, PM, PDM, RCFA) to monitor equipment, resolve issues, and implement long-term integrity strategies. Provides technical leadership and subject matter expertise to drive continuous improvement, sustain asset health, and support overall operational goals.

What will you do?

  • Identify deficiencies in maintenance processes and develop sustainable improvement. Apply and optimize PM / PDM activities to drive improvement in asset mean time between failures.

  • Track site specific downtime to identify reliability improvement opportunities and utilize Root Cause Analysis processes to review failures and identify corrective actions to prevent re-occurrence.

  • Develop subject matter expertise of fundamental reliability concepts and skills.

  • Develop operations process knowledge required for effective troubleshooting and problem solving.

  • Provide prioritized electrical asset assessments that support 5-year capital planning.

  • Collaborate with peers to develop reliability improvement strategies, pursue consistency between sites, share best practices and experiences.

  • Deploy and execute electrical asset strategies and monitor results to continually refine and improve.

  • Seize opportunity to build environmental, health and safety improvements into equipment asset strategies.

  • Be a role model to others in exceeding expectations of EHS policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for conducting audits and inspections.

  • Review and authorize work permits; development of lock-out-tag-out plans.

  • SME is responsible for industrial electrical infrastructure equipment ranging from final utilization voltage (480/600V) to high voltage (15/34.5/69/72/115/138/230kV) and may include standby generation (<3MW).

  • SME for electrical protection and control systems. Continuous development and review of 5-yr electrical infrastructure capital planning.

  • Collaborate with maintenance planning teams to develop key field service maintenance scopes for regular maintenance, and annual turnarounds.

  • Assist with supervision of field service contractors. Interpret test results and ensure follow up actions are tracked and completed.

  • Coordinate power system study activities.

  • Complete updates to power system models.

What do you need for this role?

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology required; bachelor’s in electrical engineering preferred.

  • P. Tech designation required; APEGS Licensee or P. Eng preferred.

  • 8+ years’ experience in electrical power systems (10+ years preferred).

  • Strong skills in testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, project management, and planning; knowledge of RCA, RCM, FMEA.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and engineering tools (relays, VFDs, Asset Centre, Easy Power, AutoCAD).

  • Familiarity with protective relaying schemes, SEL devices, and power monitoring is an asset.

  • Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal.
