Job Description

$7,527.98 - $8,597.98

Assists with the management and daily operations of the Building Inspection Division of Community Development. Ensures compliance with applicable building codes by monitoring division policies and procedures, helps with the education and training of staff members, contractors and general public.

Directly supervises electrical inspectors, ensures quality control standards are met and maintains professional standards for all inspections.

Assist inspectors on complicated projects and inspections.

Participates in the selection and hiring of qualified personnel.

Assists/backfills electrical plan review as needed; to include but not limited to, solar, solar ready, and state model electric.

Monitors productivity/work flow and resolves problems to ensure deadlines are met.

Monitors the certification and training requirements of direct reports to assure they have achieved or are working on necessary levels of certification and training. Assures assignments are made on the basis of qualifications.

Communicates division policies and procedures to ensure the safe condition of building

Coordinates with the Chief/Deputy Building Official in deciding appropriate actions to take in dealing with violations.

Confers with the Chief/Deputy Building Official to keep him/her informed on key issues and progress toward objectives and to gain their support and approval; makes recommendations to assist management in making needed improvements.

Collaborates, persuades, and negotiates with others outside own work area to coordinate efforts and maintain cooperative and efficient relations.

Assists with reviews of residential and commercial drawings, plans, and specifications to ensure compliance with all applicable codes.

Ensures that all codes are interpreted properly, consistence and updated regularly through proper process.

Provides prompt and courteous responses to inquiries from public, contractors, Registered Design Professionals and co-workers.

Addresses internal and external complaints in a non-biased and professional manner.

Receives and responds to public concerns regarding code violations relating to health, safety, and/or welfare.

Performs inspections on work performed without permit or inspection to gain compliance with adopted codes.

Conducts joint inspections with Fire Prevention officials, Health Care agencies and any and all public and private agencies related to the safe use and occupancy of buildings.

Attends staff meetings, seminars, and training sessions; maintains current knowledge of recent code developments, construction practices, and building products.

Utilizing computer, locates permit and inspection information; maintains familiarity with office computer system.

Oral and written communications must be clear and effective.

Drives county vehicle while performing normal daily inspections.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in engineering, planning, public administration or related field and 5 years of progressively responsible experience.

Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

State of Colorado Journeyman or Master Electrical License

ICC Commercial Electrical Inspector Certification

ICC Residential Building Inspector Certification (Preferred)

Electrical Plans Examiner Certification (Shall be obtained within 12 months of hire)

ICC Plumbing Inspector Certification (Shall be obtained within 12 months of hire)

ICC Commercial Building Certification (Shall be obtained within 12 months of hire)

(Or other ICC certifications or equivalent approved by Chief Building Official)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

This position requires climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Must be able to lift one’s own body weight as related to performing inspections.

The employee is frequently exposed to dirt, smoke, fumes, extreme heat and cold for long duration, outside atmospheric conditions, traffic noise, and dust for sustained periods of time.

The employee is frequently exposed to possible bodily injury from moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools, and machinery.

The employee is occasionally exposed to possible bodily injury from electrical shock, falling from high places, and toxic or caustic chemicals.

While performing the essential functions of this job, shaking objects or surfaces; conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, mists, gases, and poor ventilation that affect the respiratory system eyes, or the skin.
