Located in Exmouth, the Electrical Fitter (Nominee) is responsible for delivering high‑quality maintenance, repair, installation and overhaul services for electrical equipment across the site or workshop environment. This role ensures the safe and reliable operation of electrical systems, including switchboards, motors, transformers, generators, and control panels. The Electrical Fitter (Nominee) will carry out preventative and corrective maintenance, perform diagnostics and fault‑finding, and support the commissioning and modification of electrical equipment in line with operational requirements, OEM specifications and relevant WA legislation.

Working both independently and as part of a broader maintenance team, the Electrical Fitter (Nominee) is expected to maintain accurate records of electrical work, certifications, and compliance documentation, and to ensure the organisation maintains ongoing compliance to retain its Electrical Contractor’s Licence.

In addition, the Electrical Fitter (Nominee) is expected to apply strong technical capability, attention to detail and a commitment to safety. The role requires effective communication with engineering, operations and other trades to resolve equipment issues, improve reliability and maintain compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA) and the Electricity (Licensing) Regulations 1991. This position plays a key part in ensuring plant availability, minimising downtime, and supporting continuous improvement across maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the site’s responsible electrical authority, ensuring all electrical work on site complies with WA legislation, WAER, and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Maintain direct oversight of electrical activities on site, ensuring work is carried out safely, correctly, and within the scope of workers’ licences.
  • Verify that all electrical installation, maintenance, and modification work is properly tested, inspected, and compliant before energisation or return to service.
  • Ensure site electrical procedures, standards, and work instructions are current, implemented, and adhered to by all personnel and contractors.
  • Manage and enforce permit systems, isolations, and LOTO processes for electrical work.
  • Provide technical guidance and supervision to electricians, electrical fitters, and contractors working on site.
  • Ensure only licensed and competent personnel perform electrical installing work, and that supervision levels are appropriate.
  • Oversee and endorse electrical safety documentation, including switching programs, test records, and compliance certificates where required.
  • Lead or support electrical incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Liaise with site management, engineering teams, and external regulators (e.g., Energy Safety WA) regarding electrical compliance and safety matters.
  • Monitor and manage electrical risks across the site, including ageing infrastructure, hazardous areas, and high‑risk activities.
  • Ensure compliance with high voltage procedures, if applicable, including switching, access control, and authorisations.
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and compliance reviews, addressing any identified gaps.
  • Maintain oversight of contractor electrical work, ensuring external parties meet site and statutory requirements.
  • Promote a strong electrical safety culture, including mentoring, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participation in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Essential Qualifications & Licence's

  • Electrical Worker’s Licence – Electrician (issued under the Electricity (Licensing) Regulations 1991) – unrestricted.
  • Certificate III in Electrotechnology – Electrician.
  • Current “C” Class Manual Driver’s Licence.
  • Construction White Card.
  • Working at Heights training.
  • CPR/LVR (within valid timeframe).
  • Demonstrated eligibility and capability to be appointed as a Nominee under a WA Electrical Contractor’s Licence.
  • Successful candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) Security clearance as needed. Eligibility can be found at https://www.agsva.gov.au/applicants/eligibility-suitability

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as an Electrical Fitter in industrial, mining, oil & gas, utilities, Defence, or heavy manufacturing environments.
  • Strong fault finding and diagnostic abilities on LV electrical systems and rotating equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining, overhauling and installing motors, switchboards, generators, transformers and control systems.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation accurately.
  • Competence in safe isolation, lock out/tag out (LOTO) and electrical safety procedures.
  • Experience with preventative and corrective maintenance routines.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical testing equipment (e.g., insulation testers, multimeters, loop testers).
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a maintenance team to meet operational deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of WA electrical safety legislation, WAER, and Australian Standards (including AS/NZS 3000).
  • Proficiency in completing maintenance records, job cards, and CMMS entries.
  • Proven experience in supervision and control of electrical work and personnel on a site.
  • Experience ensuring electrical compliance, inspection, testing, and certification requirements are met.
  • Strong understanding of electrical risk management and statutory compliance obligations.
  • Experience managing permit to work systems, isolations, and LOTO at a site-wide level.
  • Ability to review and verify electrical work for compliance prior to energisation.
  • Experience coordinating and overseeing contractor electrical activities.

Desired Qualifications

  • Electrical Contractor Training Program (Nominees WAE200)
  • High Voltage Switching Operation (HVSO) certification.
  • EEHA (Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas) competency.
  • Cert IV in Work Health & Safety (WHS) or equivalent.
  • Formal training in Incident Investigation / ICAM / Root Cause Analysis.
  • Leadership or Supervisory qualifications.
  • First Aid certificate.
  • Forklift, EWP or dogging/rigging tickets (site dependent).

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Experience in HV switching or exposure to high‑voltage equipment.
  • Control systems experience (fault finding or basic programming).
  • Experience in hazardous areas (EEHA) equipment maintenance or inspections.
  • Familiarity with CMMS platforms (SAP, Pronto, Maximo, etc.).
  • Experience acting in or supporting a Nominee / Responsible Electrical Person role.
  • Capability in audits, compliance reviews, and regulatory engagement (e.g., Energy Safety WA).
  • Experience developing and maintaining site electrical procedures, standards, and safe systems of work.
  • Knowledge of HV systems, switching programs, and electrical access permits.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to electricians and fitters.
  • Experience in high-risk or highly regulated environments (e.g., defence, mining, major hazard facilities).
