The Engineering Technologist III position is the third level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification. Engineering Technologist III provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with limited supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.
The Sr Engineering Technologist is the fourth level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification and considered the career level for the job hierarchy. Senior Engineering Technologists provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems, and leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently with increased latitude for unreviewed work.
The Electrical Technical Specialist will work at the site, within the station technical team and provide direct support to plant operations and maintenance, primarily in the form of troubleshooting, problem solving, and technical recommendations for assigned plant systems and equipment. In addition, the successful candidate will participate in capital improvement and maintenance projects as required. This position will support Marshall Steam Station as the Electrical System Owner.
Responsibilities
Serving as the site subject matter expert for electrical power systems.
Monitoring and trending system/component performance.
Directing onsite testing and troubleshooting activities for emergent issues.
Evaluating preventative maintenance (PM) program performance and recommending performance-based adjustments.
Ensuring regulatory compliance is maintained
Interfacing with operations & maintenance, assisting with any other electrical/control system challenges and needs
Coordinating cross functionally with other departments (such as Regional Engineering, Transmission, Maintenance & Operations) to ensure system concerns, schedules, budgeting, and related issues are properly addressed.
Maintain plant risk grid for system/equipment responsibilities
Interfacing with external vendors to ensure technical issues are properly resolved.
Evaluates Fleet Operating Experience and industry learnings to improve Equipment Reliability.
Support project management by developing the scope, technical basis, installation and testing requirements for engineering design changes, which include but are not limited to AC power systems, DC power systems, Large AC motors, Transformers, Switchgear, Motor Control Centers, Voltage Regulators, Breakers, etc.
Manage any external control system vendor support as a single point of contact (SPOC)
Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Serve as station PTAC

Engineering Technologist III
Associates degree in Engineering Technology
Minimum of 4 years of related experience.
Sr Engineering Technologist
Associates degree in Engineering Technology
Minimum of 6 years of related experience.
Work Conditions
Onsite Mobility Classification – Work will be performed at a company facility.
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated understanding of electrical distribution systems, coordination of electrical protective systems, protective relay operations, and automatic voltage regulators.
Demonstrated ability to effectively troubleshoot electrical and relay system issues.
Good understanding of NERC regulatory compliance requirements for battery and protection systems.
Understanding basic engineering theories and principles.
Understanding basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Understanding of basic principles of project management.
Experience in the utility industry.
Department specific experience applicable to the hiring department.
Ability to use Power Plan to build and process projects
Ability to use Maximo to write work orders for equipment repairs and process purchase requisitions to order materials or services for the site.
