Astrion has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineer Technician located at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA. The electrical engineer technician who supports spaceflight hardware, research prototypes, and test system development at NASA Ames Research Center. In this role, you will manufacture, assemble, test, and inspect custom cables, wire harnesses, populate and rework Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs). You will work directly with design and engineering teams in cleanroom and laboratory environments to ensure all electronic components meet strict aerospace quality standards.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
- Associate degree in Electronics Technology or equivalent vocational training, plus 3+ years of hands-on experience in electronics assembly within aerospace, defense, or high-reliability manufacturing.
- At least 3 years of related experience in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or relevant technical field
- High proficiency in fine-pitch micro-soldering, wire harness fabrication, and chemical handling for conformal coating/potting processes.
- NASA or industry spaceflight experience
- Detail knowledge and experience with Altium or equivalent design software for electrical designs and layout
- Demonstrated skillset with reading, evaluating, and reviewing electrical schematics and drawings
- Demonstrated knowledge of Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) control procedures and cleanroom protocols (Class 10k / ISO 7).
- Active or past certifications in IPC-J-STD-001 (Space Addendum), IPC/WHMA-A-620, or NASA Workmanship Standards (NASA-STD-8739.1B and 8739.4 series).
- Must be flexible in adapting to deadlines, changing schedules, competing priorities, and unpredictable events
- Thorough, detail oriented, and organized, with excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks
- Familiar with and able to present data and recommendations to a diverse audience of project managers, scientists, engineers and technical staff
- Superb verbal and written communication skills
- Ideal candidate has demonstrated ability to assign work and manage personnel and tasks

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
- Knowledge and experience with NASA standards and best practices as they relate to Electrical Design and EEE parts a desire
- Active NASA Workmanship Certifications (NASA-STD-8739 series), desired
- Prior experience working on-site at a NASA facility or aerospace contractor environment.
- Exceptional customer relationship management highly desirable
- Knowledge of quality management systems and the ability to support Quality Assurance personnel to perform inspections.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Cable & Harness Assembly: Fabrication, crimping, soldering, routing, and shielding of complex custom wiring harnesses and cable assemblies per NASA workmanship standards (NASA-STD-8739.4 or IPC/WHMA-A-620).
- PCB Population & Soldering: Hand-assembly and repair or rework and modification of surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole components on custom PCBs under high magnification using leaded and lead-free solder (NASA-STD-8739.3 or IPC-J-STD-001).
- Conformal Coating & Potting: Masking, application, and inspection of conformal coatings (silicone, acrylic, polyurethane, or epoxy) and encapsulation compounds (NASA-STD-8739.1) to protect flight hardware against harsh operational environments.
- Testing & Inspection: Performing continuity checks, hi-pot testing, resistance measurements, and visual inspection using microscopes, digital multimeters, and specialized wire analyzers.
- Documentation & Compliance: Maintaining precise build records, travelers, ESD logbooks, and redline schematics to ensure compliance with quality assurance standards and engineering requirements.
