Job Purpose

Mechanical and Project Engineer with capabilities to implement and communicate an operational plan for

completing a project, monitor progress and performance against the project plan; resolve operational problems,

minimize delays, identify, develop and gather necessary resources to complete the project. Working knowledge of

Mechanical systems with ability to develop schedules, budget and forecasts, select materials, equipment, project

staff and contractors. Estimate costs, resources and time required to complete. Types of equipment involved are

HVAC systems, Boilers, Controllers, Lift Station Equipment, Pumps, Air Compressors, and Dryers. At times, this

job will require supporting or managing jobs that are outside of the Mechanical Engineering discipline

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead continuous improvement and support of facility mechanical systems, including system design, coordination, preventative and predictive maintenance programs, capacity planning, controls, and equipment upgrades. (20%)

Support the operation of facility mechanical systems, including but not limited to:

  • Centrifugal fans
  • Burners
  • Cooling and heating coils
  • Pumps
  • Centrifugal air compressors
  • Centrifugal chillers
  • Heat exchangers

Maintain and manage mechanical system documentation and communicate critical updates to site system operators. (20%)

Update, review, and maintain electrical and mechanical drawings throughout all project phases, from design through equipment acceptance. (15%)

Ensure building mechanical systems meet customer capacity, reliability, and operational requirements. (5%)

Develop and manage project schedules, scopes of work, budgets, and project workflows to support plant-wide initiatives. (10%)

Implement engineering strategies and new technologies to replace facilities equipment and systems that have reached end-of-life (EOL). (10%)

Create project scope documents based on department requirements and manage or support contractor bidding, evaluation, and selection processes for design and construction projects.

  • Develop and manage project budgets.
  • Ensure accuracy of investment prioritization documentation.
  • Supervise engineers and on-site contractors.
  • Generate project tracking and status documentation.
  • Prioritize project activities and develop timelines to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. (10%)

Train Facilities Associates on enhancements and changes to mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Provide operational support as needed.
  • Maintain accessible and up-to-date reference documentation.
  • Promote continuous learning through technical training, mentoring, and cross-training opportunities.
  • Support the professional growth and development of team members. (10%)

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Minimum Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering

Minimum Experience

  • 0-6 years of engineering experience

Other Job-Specific Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical systems from concept development through final design, implementation, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Working knowledge of electrical and structural systems associated with manufacturing facilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project) and AutoCAD.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with a customer-focused approach and the ability to build productive working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
  • Effectively communicate technical ideas and gain consensus among individuals and teams.
  • Apply technical expertise within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
  • Plan, execute, and report on special projects.
  • Work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience with control systems architecture and programming.
  • Ability to balance customer department needs with facility equipment requirements.
  • Understanding of project management processes, including budgeting, cost reporting, scheduling, and project tracking to ensure targets are achieved.
  • Knowledge of equipment reliability systems, including:
  • Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs
  • Equipment condition monitoring
  • Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) tracking
  • Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) tracking
  • End-of-Life (EOL) equipment evaluation

Working Conditions

Willingness to travel to Ohio-based facilities for department reviews, business planning activities, and other company-related events.

Work environment consists of approximately:

  • 50% Manufacturing/Production Environment, including construction site locations
  • 50% Office/Desk Environment

May be assigned to support other Honda Development & Manufacturing of America (HDMA) facilities, Honda affiliates, and North American supplier locations as business needs require.

Ability and willingness to work overtime, weekends, and plant shutdown periods as needed to support project execution, maintenance activities, and production requirements.
