Title: Electrical Engineer

Company: KBR - Inhouse Engineering

Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE - KBR Office

Key Consideration:

Preference will be given to candidates holding valid OPITO-approved T-BOSIET/BOSIET and H₂S certifications with a minimum validity of six months. The selected candidate will be required to travel ADNOC offshore on a rotational basis to conduct site surveys, support brownfield assessments, verify existing installations, and obtain project-specific engineering data necessary for design and execution.

Job Purpose

  • Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, review, coordination, and execution of electrical engineering activities for ADNOC offshore oil and gas facilities during Concept, FEED, Detailed Engineering, EPC, Brownfield modifications, and commissioning phases. The role involves developing electrical engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with ADNOC standards, international codes, project specifications, and HSE requirements while providing technical guidance to junior engineers and designers

Key Responsibilities

  • Read, understand and implement client specifications / local / international standards.
  • Prepare electrical technical specifications, design basis, standards & procedures, and engineering calculations.
  • Prepare technical specifications and datasheets for electrical items.
  • Provide inputs to designers for preparing electrical layouts and check the work performed by designers.
  • Prepare load list, load calculations, cable sizing, earthing and lighting calculations including preparation of cable schedules and interconnection diagrams.
  • Prepare & provide input to designer for Offshore Navigational light and helideck lighting layout.
  • Prepare Material Requisition, perform offer evaluation, TBE, vendor drawing review for electrical equipment / packages.
  • Technical review of mechanical packages including offer review, TBE, VDR and coordination for engineering interfaces.
  • Knowledge on Power System Studies using ETAP/SKM.
  • Provide technical governance and ensure consistency of engineering deliverables across projects.
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines.
  • Understand and implement relevant HSE aspects while performing assigned tasks.
  • Support brownfield modifications, shutdown projects, and offshore platform upgrades.
  • Conduct offshore site surveys and verification activities.
  • Support constructability, operability, and maintainability reviews.
  • Participate in Constructability and Design Reviews.
  • Participate in technical meetings, design reviews, and project audits.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet project quality requirements and schedules.
  • Support technical queries and management of changes throughout project execution.

Electrical Design

  • Prepare of:
    • Electrical load lists and load summaries
    • Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
    • Electrical philosophies
    • Equipment specifications and datasheets
    • Electrical Equipment sizing calculation
    • Subsea cable sizing calculation
    • Cable schedules and cable routing layouts
    • Earthing and lightning protection designs
    • Hazardous area layouts and equipment schedules
    • Electrical layouts, lighting designs, and equipment installation drawings
    • Navigational and Helideck lighting design
  • Prepare MR, TBE and Review vendor documents for major electrical equipment including:
    • Gas Turbine Generators
    • Diesel Generators
    • Solar Power System
    • Motors
    • Transformers
    • Switchgear
    • Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
    • Variable Speed Drives (VSDs/VFDs)
    • UPS systems
    • Battery systems
  • Electrical system adequacy assessments and studies for brownfield facilities.
  • Ensure electrical system modifications are fully integrated with existing operational facilities.

Power System Engineering

  • Knowledge in
    • Load flow studies
    • Short circuit studies
    • Motor starting studies
  • Ensure safe and reliable operation of electrical distribution networks and critical power systems.
  • Evaluate system expansion requirements and future capacity needs.

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure full compliance with ADNOC specifications, standards, and project-specific requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, NFPA, API, NEMA, BS EN and ATEX/IECEx standards.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations and hazardous area requirements.

Interface & Coordination

  • Coordinate closely with Process, Mechanical, Piping, Instrumentation & Control, Telecommunications, Civil, Structural, and HSE disciplines to ensure seamless integration of design solutions.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary design reviews, technical workshops, and engineering resolution meetings.
  • Liaise with Vendors, OEMs, Certification Authorities, and third-party stakeholders to ensure technical compliance and resolve engineering challenges.
  • Support procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up activities.

Project Execution

  • Design reviews, technical assurance activities, and value engineering initiatives to optimize project outcomes.
  • Ensure maintainability, operability, reliability, lifecycle performance, and asset integrity considerations are embedded within the design.
  • Ensure adherence to QA/QC procedures, engineering standards, procurement requirements, and project execution procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging innovative technologies including electrical digitalization, condition monitoring, smart substations, power management systems, and energy optimization solutions.
  • Coordinate and participate in OEM electrical equipment/system adequacy assessments and review and approve adequacy study reports.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in Oil & Gas / industrial projects
  • Minimum 3 years in offshore oil and gas projects.
  • ADNOC Offshore project experience is desirable.
  • Proven experience in Concept, FEED, Detailed Engineering, and EPC phases.
  • Experience in brownfield modifications and offshore facilities upgrades.
  • Ability to read and understand overall power distribution scheme and SLDs
  • Good knowledge of electrical equipment like MV/LV Switchgears, transformers, UPS etc.
  • Advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications specifically: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and Word
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • OPITO Approved BOSIET/T-BOSIET Certification.
  • Offshore Site Survey and Brownfield Assessment experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent.

Technical Skills

  • Experience in the design, specification, and implementation of Electrical System.
  • Knowledge of power generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization systems.
  • Knowledge of ETAP, SKM, DIgSILENT and AVEVA/SPEL Electrical is preferable.
  • In-depth knowledge of hazardous area classification, equipment selection, certification requirements (IECEx/ATEX), and installation practices for hazardous zones.
  • Thorough understanding of FEED and Detailed Engineering deliverables, document management systems, MOC processes, and project controls.
  • Experience with emergency power systems, Solar Power System, Navigational light system, UPS systems, battery systems, and Power Management Systems (PMS).
  • Understanding of offshore electrical installations and ADNOC design requirements.
