DEPARTMENT SUMMARY

The Electrical Engineer performs a variety of tasks including research, development, and testing across mechanical and electrical components, equipment, systems, controls, software, and machinery. The Electrical Engineer applies engineering knowledge to design, implement, and support products such as instruments, controls, and machines that support production, engineering, and project management functions. This role purchases, integrates, and improves hardware and software for custom applications, and leads the fabrication, installation, application, and technical support of these products. As an Electrical Engineer on the Automation team, you will take full ownership of electrical design, power distribution, and control systems for multi-million-dollar custom machines and tooling projects. This is a hands-on design/build role you'll see your panels and systems come to life on our shop floor, supporting the most demanding aerospace programs in the world.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement improvements to existing automation in mechanical assembly, machining, and inspection processes
  • Develop and execute high-level and detailed project plans, including managing schedules and budgets
  • Complete and understand all quality requirements for projects
  • Manage project scope and perform risk assessments
  • Identify opportunities for automation within software processes
  • Identify bugs and quality issues in development, service, or business processes
  • Lead electrical design of industrial control panels (UL508A), power distribution, and instrumentation systems
  • Create complete electrical schematics, panel layouts, BOMs, and documentation using ePlan
  • Design multi-axis servo systems, motion control architecture, and high-performance drive systems
  • Specify and integrate energy chains, cabling, safety systems, and field instrumentation
  • Serve as electrical project/technical lead on $5M–$10M custom machine builds
  • Collaborate daily with mechanical engineers, software/controls engineers, machinists, and assembly technicians
  • Mentor junior engineers and drive best practices across the team
  • Support build, debug, FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), and installation/commissioning phases
  • Must work well under pressure, meeting and completing multiple deadlines
  • Must be at work on time and maintain good attendance. This is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited, competitive university
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in automation, robotics, or custom machine design
  • Direct, hands-on experience designing UL508A industrial control panels
  • Proficiency with ePlan P8 (or AutoCAD Electrical, SOLIDWORKS Electrical, etc.)
  • Proven track record designing multi-axis servo and motion control systems
  • Demonstrated project management or technical leadership on capital equipment projects in the $5M–$10M range
  • Experience with energy chain (cable carrier) design and routing in large moving structures
  • Strong working knowledge of machine-tool or aerospace equipment electrical systems
  • Excellent cross-discipline communicator who thrives in integrated ME/EE/SW environments
  • Bias for action, fast-paced execution, and the ability to self-manage multiple projects

DETAILED WAGE INFORMATION

  • Wage range for this role is between $83,000 - $135,000 annually , plus a discretionary bonus, 401(k) matching, vacation, and health benefits. Employees can also receive additional pay for off-shifts, off-site work, and access pay. The range provided is Janicki’s estimate of the base compensation for this role. Actual amount offered will be based on job-related and non-discriminatory factors such as experience, location, education, training, skills, and abilities
