Job Description

Corvid Technologies is looking to add an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead the system design, integration, and verification of electromechanical actuation systems for control surfaces of guided rockets and missiles. In this role, you will bridge the gap between the various engineering groups and physical hardware, often collaborating across disciplines to help understand technical trade-offs and optimize performance of systems.

The position will be responsible for the full lifecycle of the actuator electronics, complete drive systems, and power delivery systems - from initial architecture trade studies through hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and flight qualification. Successful candidate will bring strong analytical and troubleshooting skills – specifically as it relates to complex hardware/software interactions. The role will work in a fast pace, collaborative, and iterative engineering environment focused on delivering exception products to the warfighter.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architecture & Design of electrical and electromechanical components for actuation systems (drive electronics, position feedback sensors, power distribution networks, and thermal batteries)
  • Requirements Management for system-level vehicle requirements (deflection rates, peak torque, bandwidth, duty cycles, dynamic response, and thermal limits) into detailed electrical and electro-mechanical subsystem specifications
  • Control & Drive Integration for closed-loop servo control algorithms, current/torque loops, and fault-detection logic into embedded drive electronics
  • Safety & Reliability analyses, including DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and dynamic load/failure response, ensuring fault tolerance and compliance with safety-critical flight requirements
  • Testing & Verification support includes bench testing, Environmental Stress Screening (ESS), integrated bench testing (iron bird), and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing
  • Compliance & Qualification support for hardware qualification and acceptance activities against aerospace standards (e.g., DO-160, DO-254, DO-178, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, RCC-319)

Requirements:

  • Candidate must be a US Citizen and meet eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (or related STEM Discipline) and at least 3 years of relevant experience supporting safety-critical electromechanical actuation systems (EMA), servo systems, or high-performance motor drives
  • Demonstrated expertise in electric motor drives, power electronics, thermal batteries, and/or sensor feedback systems
  • Proficiency in modeling and simulating dynamic electrical/mechatronic systems using MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE, or similar tools
  • Experience with schematic capture, cable/harness design tools (Altium, SolidWorks Electrical)
  • Experience with communication buses common in aerospace (CAN, RS-422/485, Ethernet)
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory test equipment (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, dynamic load benches)

About Corvid Technologies

Corvid Technologies - The Evolution of Innovation Starts Here.

Corvid is a small business that provides technology-based solutions to a diverse customer base ranging from the Missile Defense Agency to NASCAR.

Founded in 2004, we are a team of over 140 engineers and scientists, approximately three-quarters of whom hold master's degrees or Ph.D.s. We offer end-to-end solutions that include concept development, design, optimization, build, and test. We leverage the predictive power of our high-fidelity computational physics solvers, indigenous massively parallel supercomputer systems, prototyping plant, and ballistics and mechanics lab to investigate a wide range of high-rate physics phenomena. The results are complex engineering solutions for a variety of applications, including aircraft, ballistic missile defense, motorsports, armor development, biological systems, and missile and warhead design and development. These solutions are achieved with optimal design and cost efficiency, thanks to the predictive capability of Corvid's tools and our in-house, integrated end-to-end approach, which sets Corvid apart from the market.

Corvid’s main campus is located in Mooresville, NC, with satellite offices in Alexandria, VA, and Huntsville, AL. Corvid is a CNI Company and functions as a subsidiary of CNI Government, LLC.
