Department: Technical Services

Reports to: Engineering Superintendent

Location: Florence AZ

Job Summary

At Florence Copper, we’re pioneering clean, in-situ copper recovery—and we need an Electrical Engineer who’s wired for precision and purpose. In this role, you’ll take ownership of the electrical and control systems that drive our SX/EW plant and wellfield—from high-voltage distribution to PLC/SCADA optimization. Your expertise will keep our systems safe, efficient, and capable of meeting production goals while helping shape the future of responsible mining in Arizona. If you're ready to drive change and create lasting impact, Florence Copper is where your career takes off.

Key Responsibilities

Design and Maintenance:

  • Design, review, and maintain electrical systems including MCCs, transformers, switchgear, and motor protection systems.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of SX/EW and wellfield specific equipment such as rectifiers, electrolytic cells, pump motors, and agitation systems.
  • Manage installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems in the SX/EW and wellfield upgrades or expansions.

Automation and Control:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot control systems including PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley), SCADA, and HMI interfaces.
  • Develop and optimize automation sequences for the SX, EW, and wellfield processes to enhance efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Ensure proper calibration and functioning of field instruments (e.g., pH meters, flowmeters, conductivity sensors).

Reliability and Optimization:

  • Conduct failure analysis and implement root cause solutions for recurring electrical issues.
  • Monitor energy consumption and suggest improvements for energy efficiency in the SX/EW circuits.
  • Work with process engineers to align electrical system performance with process goals.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all electrical work is performed in accordance with relevant electrical codes (e.g., NEC, IEEE) and mine site safety protocols.
  • Participate in electrical safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Ensure electrical personnel are trained in safe work practices and lockout/tagout procedures.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare and update electrical drawings (single-line diagrams, schematics, layouts).
  • Maintain asset registers, preventive maintenance schedules, and failure logs.
  • Provide technical reports and recommendations to management.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in electrical engineering in a mining, metallurgical, or heavy industrial environment.
  • Direct experience with SX/EW plant operations is highly desirable.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in power systems, control systems, and industrial automation.
  • Experience with PLC/SCADA systems, preferably used in hydrometallurgical operations.
  • Familiarity with electrical standards and safety codes (NEC, IEEE, MSHA, etc.).

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and team collaboration.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, remote, or challenging industrial environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Site-based role in a mining or metallurgical processing facility.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather, electrical hazards, and industrial noise.
  • May require working irregular hours, including weekends or on-call rotation.

Florence Copper isn’t just a mining project; it’s a revolution beneath your feet.

We’re pioneering some of the cleanest, most advanced copper extraction methods in the world, right here in Arizona.
