Electrical Engineer

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Project Engineer - Electrical is responsible to manage key relationships with all project team members, consultants, contractors and Alamos Stakeholders to ensure consistent compliance with project plan and timely response and resolution to project changes.

The role requires that the successful candidate be self-motivated, detail-oriented, possess a positive and collaborative attitude, an effective and efficient communicator, able to deal efficiently with change, and have prior experience in both EPCM / construction environments. The role also requires coordination and collaboration with many project team stakeholders and the ability to analyze, compile, control, and organize large quantities of information and documentation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the Engineering Manager in coordinating project engineering activities, ensuring that the activities are delivered on budget and schedule, and that the engineering meets the Project design and quality objectives.
  • Liaise with subject matter experts and other Alamos project and operational sites for subject matter expertise as required, and ensure key team members are consulted and involved in key activities and decision points regarding design, operability and maintainability.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with cross-functional teams of consultants, contractors, vendors and work closely with the Project team to ensure quality engineering deliverables regarding safety in design, constructability and cost.
  • Provide design input to engineering consultants.
  • Review and develop specifications, detailed scopes of work, and tender documents.
  • Coordinate efforts internally within the Project team during planning, design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Coordination and management of contractors and consultants, as required.
  • Participate in and provide value-added insights in detailed engineering alignment sessions and workshops.
  • Project follow up: site visits, quality control, cost control, and adherence to plan.
  • Managing project execution schedule.
  • Analysis and reporting of cost, scope, and schedule status to the project team and stakeholders.
  • Recognize project changes as well as document and initiate change control management procedures to evaluate and impact changes on cost, time, and scope.
  • Recommend courses of action designed to maintain schedule and control project costs.
  • Support RFQs and RFPs process including preparation, review, analysis, and selection.
  • Coaching and mentorship of younger team members, as required.
  • Other tasks as required.


Qualifications and Experience Requirements :

  • BSc in Electrical Engineering with minimum 10 years of relevant progressive experience.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the Province of Manitoba, or eligibility for registration.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or equivalent is highly regarded.
  • Previous consulting, EPCM, package engineering, or construction experience is highly preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of surface mining construction methods highly regarded.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, a strong commitment to working in a safe, socially responsible manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required.
  • Experience with scheduling applications (Primavera P6) and project management applications would be an asset.
