The Role

We are seeking a full-time permanent Electrical Drafter to support the design and documentation of industrial automation and control systems. The ideal candidate will have experience creating electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for PLC-based control systems and industrial control panels. This role requires strong attention to detail, technical drafting expertise, and the ability to work collaboratively with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams to deliver compliant and cost-effective solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and revise electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, terminal plans, loop diagrams, control panel layouts, cable drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for industrial automation and control systems.
  • Develop detailed manufacturing drawing packages for Industrial Control Panels (ICPs), PLC control panels, remote I/O panels, marshalling panels, operator consoles, motor control interfaces, and junction boxes.
  • Convert engineering concepts, markups, sketches, specifications, and field redlines into accurate CAD drawings.
  • Create panel layouts including component placement, wireway sizing, clearance verification, heat dissipation considerations, and enclosure selection.
  • Generate cable schedules, interconnection drawings, network topology diagrams, I/O lists, and instrument connection details.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, drawing registers, revision control records, manufacturing instructions, and assembly procedures.
  • Produce and maintain BOMs including panel components, field devices, instrumentation, networking equipment, and power distribution hardware.
  • Coordinate with electrical engineers, controls engineers, instrumentation specialists, mechanical designers, procurement, and production teams to resolve design and documentation issues.
  • Work closely with panel fabrication shops and outsourced manufacturers to address technical questions and incorporate manufacturing feedback.
  • Perform drawing quality reviews and ensure compliance with project specifications, customer standards, and applicable electrical codes.
  • Support factory acceptance tests (FAT) and troubleshooting activities in Calgary location when required.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience drafting industrial control panels.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical/AutoCAD and strong knowledge of industrial control panel design, manufacturing practices, and industrial automation systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, cable schedules, BOMs, revision control processes, and engineering documentation.
  • Ability to interpret electrical specifications, P&IDs, and customer design standards, with strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards, including UL 508A, CSA C22.2 No. 286, CSA C22.1 (CEC), CSA/UL/NEMA requirements, and hazardous location standards.

Experience

  • Experience designing industrial control panels, electrical systems, or automation systems, with exposure to PLC's, HMIs, instrumentation, and control technologies.
  • Experience producing electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, cable schedules and Bill of Materials (BOMs).
  • Experience working in industries such as Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, or Renewable Energy is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in roles such as Electrical Designer, Industrial Control Panel Designer, Control Systems Designer, Controls Technician, Instrumentation Designer, or related fields considered an asset.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Drafting Technology, or a related field preferred.
