Position: Electrical Designer II

Department: Industrial, Process & Agribusiness (IPA)

Reporting Relationship: Senior Electrical Engineer

& RESPONSIBILITIES

The Electrical Designer II plays a key role in the successful execution of projects, focusing primarily on the production of AutoCAD drawings and Revit modeling. Reporting to an Electrical Engineering Manager, the Electrical Designer II is responsible for producing quality construction documents and coordinating design work with other engineering disciplines. The successful candidate will be expected to work within a team environment and collaborate with other project team members.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Actively engage in learning opportunities, both on the job and through dedicated development.
  • Attend site visits as necessary to collect pertinent electrical design information to be translated to engineering documents.
  • Search through existing drawings and identify pertinent information to carry over into new designs.
  • Collect electrical data from project team members.
  • Develop electrical room layouts, including placement of electrical equipment (transformers, switchboards, switchgear, motor control centers, panel boards) based off of one-lines and available sizing tools from manufacturers.
  • Perform lighting layout and design (interior, exterior, and egress/exit).
  • Model equipment and raceway in AutoCAD and have the ability to perform or learn to perform those routings in Revit.
  • Create schematic and wiring diagrams from engineer provided information and redlines.
  • Edit schedules (motor control centers, panel boards, lighting fixtures) in Excel and Revit.
  • Coordinate work and construction documents with internal and external stakeholders (other disciplines, architects, owner, contractors).
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to developing electrical design team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • AAS Degree or Diploma in Design/Drafting, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of Drafting/Design experience, preferably in AutoCAD and Revit, in a consulting and/or construction capacity.
  • Basic understanding of Architectural, Electrical, Civil, and Structural Engineering construction practices and drawings.
  • Working knowledge of applicable Codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA, IBC, IFC, Energy Code, Life Safety Code, etc.) used for layout of drawings.
  • Familiarity with quality control procedures, including QAQC processes.
  • Hands-on experience with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Experience using Autodesk Revit for electrical design, including 3D modeling of electrical equipment and effective coordination with other disciplines.
  • Knowledge of computer technology and specific areas of application , including MS Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others.
  • Represent the company in a professional matter.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without the need for work sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Travel: May include some domestic travel, likely 5% or less, 1 to 2 days in duration.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of SKM Power Tools for Windows, or Easy Power modeling software.

Working Conditions

  • Some work locations will feature the tough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment.

Compensation $33.00-42.00 per hour. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual qualifications, experience, work location, and education. This position is eligible for an annual bonus.
