Blykalla is a Swedish deep-tech company at the forefront of the nuclear industry, pioneering the development of small modular reactors that provide clean, safe, and reliable energy. Thanks to lead-cooling, we achieve high safety in a very compact format, allowing for a simple and cost-effective design that can be mass-produced. Our unique reactor design will provide safe and green baseload energy that perfectly complements solar and wind power.
You will lead the Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation team within Plant Engineering — owning both engineering delivery and the people who do the work. You set the technical direction across electrical power, instrumentation, and process control and safety systems, and you build and develop a high-performing team. You turn requirements into practical engineering solutions, coordinate interfaces across disciplines and with suppliers, and help shape a plant-as-a-product mindset through standardization, modular design, and DfMA.
Lead and grow the E I&C team, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development
Set technical direction across power distribution, motor control, instrumentation, PLC/DCS architecture, SCADA/HMI, functional safety, and industrial cyber security
Define and maintain design criteria, specifications, datasheets, instrument indexes, control system architecture, and modularization principles
Direct and review power studies, loop and sizing calculations, SIL determination, hazardous area classification, and cyber security assessments
Coordinate interfaces with process, mechanical, piping, civil, layout, and operations disciplines
Set supplier strategy and review vendor documents, FATs, and software functional designs
Give reliable input to estimates, schedules, and risk reviews, and escalate risks early
Improve methods, templates, and design practices to make the discipline faster and better with every project
The E I&C Team Lead sits in the Plant Engineering team and reports to the Plant Engineering Manager. We are a diverse team that is passionate about our work and Blykalla.
15+ years of relevant engineering experience, with at least 5 years as a people leader
Background from heavy industry, oil and gas, manufacturing, or power generation
Strong command of IEC standards (60364, 61439, 60079, 61131, 61511, 62443) and/or US codes (NFPA 70, IEEE, ANSI)
Experienced in power system studies (load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, arc flash) and functional safety (SIL)
Proven ability to set technical direction, coach engineers, and build team capability
Transparent, dependable, and solution-oriented — someone who builds trust across functions
Nuclear or other highly regulated industry experience
Hands-on experience with ETAP, SmartPlant Instrumentation, AutoCAD Electrical, or equivalent tools
Experience contributing to control system platform strategy, tool roadmaps, or discipline ways of working
If you are not sure that you are 100% qualified but are up to the challenge, we encourage you to apply.

Blykalla is on a mission to change the energy future of the world, by providing green, safe, baseload energy through next generation small modular lead-cooled reactors.
Blykalla is a Swedish deep-tech company founded in 2013 by Janne Wallenius, Peter Szakalos and Jesper Ejenstam as a spin-off from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, where Janne Wallenius carried out research on design and safety analysis on lead-cooled reactor systems since 1996.
We develop and build lead-cooled small modular reactors (SMRs) to deliver safe, scalable and carbon-free baseload power supply. Thanks to lead-cooling, we achieve high safety in a very compact format, allowing for a simple and cost effective design that can be mass produced. Our unique reactor design will provide safe and green baseload energy that is a perfect complement to solar and wind power.
