Job Description

If you’re a seasoned commissioning professional who enjoys complex, high-stakes environments and wants consistent and stable work, this role offers exactly that.

You’ll work on some of the most critical facilities in the country—primarily data centers and AI infrastructure— alongside a deeply respected commissioning team known for technical excellence and professionalism. You’ll have access to top-tier tools, strong operational support, and a leadership team that values quality, safety, and long-term relationships over volume and burnout.

This is an opportunity to:

  • Earn $100K–$160K in a salaried role with bonus eligibility

  • Work with a stable backlog of projects (no boom-and-bust cycles)

  • Join a team recognized as some of the best in the industry

  • Grow your responsibility, compensation, and project scope over time

  • Maintain work-life balance through a predictable 3 weeks on / 1 week off travel cadence for data center projects

The Work You’ll Be Doing

As a Commissioning Engineer, you’ll play a key role in delivering mission-critical facilities from pre-functional testing through integrated system validation. You’ll manage commissioning activities, collaborate with multiple stakeholders, and ensure systems perform exactly as designed.

Primary project types include:

  • Data Centers & AI Infrastructure (≈80% of current workload)

  • Fulfillment Centers

  • Security Systems (office, lab, and data center environments)

  • Grocery & Refrigeration Facilities

  • Select Educational Facilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage commissioning activities for large, complex facilities

  • Develop and execute commissioning plans, test procedures, SOPs, and MOPs

  • Lead equipment pre-start-up, start-up, and functional performance testing

  • Perform integrated system testing and load bank testing

  • Review design documents, drawings, specifications, and submittals

  • Maintain commissioning logs, checklists, and documentation

  • Prepare comprehensive commissioning reports, including deficiencies and operational recommendations

  • Interface with clients, contractors, vendors, and owner representatives

  • Support troubleshooting and validation of electrical systems in the field

  • Participate in commissioning meetings and construction coordination as required

What You Bring

Experience & Credentials

  • Minimum 4+ years of commissioning experience (more is ideal)

  • Strong electrical background required

  • Prior data center or mission-critical experience is a must

  • CCP or CxA certification strongly preferred

  • NFPA 70E and OSHA 10 or 30 required

    • (Can be provided post-hire for earlier-career candidates, but experienced professionals are expected to already have this background)

Technical Expertise

  • Hands-on experience with power quality meters, infrared cameras, data loggers, and related testing equipment

  • Familiarity with integrated systems testing and electrical equipment validation

  • Working knowledge of IEEE procedures and protocols (preferred)

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (primary), Word, and Project

  • Experience with CxAlloy preferred (client-specific platforms such as AWS, Microsoft, or Meta tools may also be required)

Communication

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Comfortable producing detailed documentation and client-facing reports

Tools & Support Provided

  • 2:1 laptop setup

  • Safety gear and specialized commissioning equipment

  • Cell phone reimbursement

  • Access to industry-standard and owner-required software platforms

Travel & Team Structure

  • ~65% national travel (no international travel)

  • Data center projects typically follow a 3 weeks on / 1 week off schedule

  • Week-off does not impact PTO accrual

  • Commissioning team is distributed nationwide, allowing proximity to projects and efficient deployment

Compensation & Benefits

  • $100,000–$160,000 base salary, depending on experience

  • Bonus eligibility (higher responsibility = higher upside)

  • PTO accrual based on years of experience

  • 1099 engagement structure (details shared during the process)

Growth Opportunities

This role offers a clear runway:

  • Earlier-career professionals can expand into project management or leadership responsibilities

  • Senior professionals gain access to larger clients, more complex projects, and increased compensation

  • Long-term stability with a firm committed to investing in its people, not cycling through them
