Job Description

Overview

You might know us for the great work we do across our wide variety of projects. We're proud to say it's thanks to our people's diversity of thought, expertise and knowledge. When you join us, you'll be part of a genuinely collaborative environment, where everyone's voice is valued and treated equally.

We are passionate about what we do, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. Simply put, this is a great place to be. When it comes to your life outside work, ask us about our flexible and remote working policies designed to help you get the most out of life.

Join our established Building Design practice where the work is varied and everyone is supported to deliver successful outcomes. You'll shape places and spaces that matter across our key sectors. Known for your high-quality work, you'll collaborate with clients and stakeholders while leading diverse local and remote delivery teams. In this senior role, you will provide visible leadership in electrical building services, including power distribution, lighting, life-safety systems, communications, resilience and low-carbon electrical infrastructure, while developing our technical, digital, project delivery and business capability.

Your role

  • Lead the electrical design and technical delivery of building services projects, taking accountability for safe, compliant and high-quality outcomes.
  • Translate client requirements into clear technical strategies, coordinated briefs and practical design solutions that add value throughout the project life cycle.
  • Act as discipline lead, project technical leader, technical reviewer or multi-disciplinary lead on appropriate commissions, maintaining effective governance, assurance and management of design risk.
  • Plan and direct project resources, delegate clearly, monitor progress and deliver the agreed scope to programme, budget and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate complex interfaces across architecture, structures, sustainability, fire, specialist systems and other building services disciplines.
  • Build trusted client and stakeholder relationships, present recommendations clearly and negotiate effectively to resolve complex issues.
  • Shape bids, fee proposals and delivery strategies, identifying commercial and technical risks, opportunities and efficiencies.
  • Develop capability by coaching, mentoring and providing clear direction and constructive feedback to colleagues.
  • Support business growth by identifying opportunities, strengthening long-term client engagement and connecting expertise across the wider organisation.
  • Set and review strategies for electrical infrastructure, power distribution, lighting, emergency and life-safety systems, resilience and energy performance, evaluating options for supply, protection, standby power, renewable generation, storage and smart controls, and assuring calculations, specifications, schedules and technical submissions.

About you

  • Strong professional knowledge and recognised technical standing in electrical building services engineering, supported by extensive design and project experience.
  • Chartered Engineer status, or an equivalent level of professional expertise, with membership of a relevant professional institution.
  • A detailed understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, standards, guidance and common forms of construction contract.
  • Experience leading significant single-discipline and multi-disciplinary design commissions and integrating technical inputs across complex projects.
  • Sound commercial judgement, including fee development, project cost control, change management, risk evaluation and delivery against agreed targets.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to produce clear reports, present complex matters and influence senior clients and stakeholders.
  • Leadership and people-management capability, with experience developing people, shaping effective teams and creating an inclusive working environment.
  • A client-focused approach and evidence of developing relationships, identifying opportunities and contributing to successful bids and business growth.
  • Confidence in making balanced approach from complex or incomplete information, while knowing when to seek specialist advice or escalate material risk.
  • Commitment to technical excellence, safety, quality, innovation, digital delivery, knowledge sharing and continuous professional development.
