The Electrical Apprentice supports the installation, termination and assembly of electrical systems, including conduit, cabling, equipment, panels, sensors and control devices. This role assists with the construction and fabrication of control panels and systems, including the installation of interlocking wiring and participation in wiring verification and checkout activities to ensure proper functionality, under the direction of a certified Journeyperson.

RolesandResponsibilities

  • Install and terminate conduit, cable, electrical equipment, panels, sensors and control components in compliance with applicable codes and standards

  • Assist with the construction andfabrication ofcontrol panels and perform roughin andfinishingwiring for control systems.

  • Install interlocking wiring and assist with wiring verification and checkout in accordance with applicable codes and specifications.

  • Installelectricalsystem components and wiring in compliance with applicable codes and standards, includingthe Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and where applicable,NEC, NESC, NFPA and UFC

  • Assist with the installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of electrical control circuits for motors and control devices.

  • Support the preparation of material takeoffs and identification of required electrical equipment and components.

  • Assist with lockout/tagout (LOTO) and electrical isolation procedures in accordance with company safety policies.

  • Support the review of facility electrical system plans and specifications andidentify opportunities for improvements to operational performance and efficiency.

  • Assist with testing installed, repaired or modified equipment to verify proper operation and performance.

  • Perform routine cleaning, lubrication and other basic maintenance activities as required.

  • Maintain detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation in accordance with company procedures.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in electrical technologies, codes, compliance requirements and repair techniques.

  • Monitor electrical parts and materials usage and report any shortages, discrepancies or material issues to supervision.

  • Assist in preparing preventative and predictive maintenance schedules.

  • Support quality control checks and inspection readiness by ensuring work meets drawings, specifications and applicable standards.

  • Ensure assigned tasks and project work are completed accurately in alignment with required standards.

  • Perform assigned electrical tasks under the direction of a certified Journeyperson or designated supervisor in accordance with apprenticeship requirements.

  • Perform all duties in accordance with Silent-Aire safety program standards and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code.

  • Other duties may be assignedas deemed necessary.

Knowledge, SkillsandAbilities

  • Understanding ofelectrical fundamentals, including voltage, current, resistance and basic circuitry

  • Basic understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and applicable standards

  • Ability to work in a safety sensitive environmentand adhering to safety protocols.

  • Awareness of electrical safety practices and hazard recognition

  • Demonstratedcommitment to completing technical training and progressing toward Journeyperson certification.

  • Exposure to electrical installation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting activities

  • Introductory ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and specifications

  • Introductory knowledge of motor controls, sensorsand control circuits.

  • Ability to safely use basic electrical hand tools, power tools and test instruments.

  • Demonstratedability to thrive in a fastpaced, highpressure production environment while effectively managing multiple competing priorities.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships.

  • Ability to interact with others in a sensitive, tactful, diplomatic and professional mannerat all times

  • Highly adaptable, with strong interpersonal skills that support effective collaboration in a diverse work environment.

Education and Work Experience

  • HighSchoolDiploma or equivalent

  • Must be registered as an Apprentice Electrician with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) and actively enrolled in an approved trade school program.

  • A minimum of 500 hours of electrical experience is required.

  • Previous work experience in an industrial, commercial or manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of electrical tools, materials and equipment used in manufacturing environments is an asset.

  • Experience with routine electrical maintenance operations is an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Required to work in a manufacturing environment that may involve exposure to noise, moving machinery, varying temperaturesand other productionrelatedhazards

  • Required to useappropriatepersonal protective equipment(PPE)to prevent exposure to hazardous materialsand excessive noise levels in the workplace.

  • Must have the physicalability to lift and carry materials weighing up to35lbs.

  • Must have theability to stand for extended periodsthroughout each shift

  • Manual dexterityisrequired to effectively operate tools and equipment.

  • Overtime may be available occasionallybased on operational needs
