We are seeking applications for Electrical Apprentices (ideally 3rd year) to join the team at the Sydney Steel Mill. This is an exciting opportunity to begin your career and gain exposure to one of Australia’s most unique steel making facilities.
Our apprentices tell us that it's the balance between working and studying that will really give you the edge. When you're not at TAFE learning the technicalities of your trade, you'll be on site putting what you've learnt into practice with heavy machinery and equipment. You'll have space to balance both study and work. You'll be challenged and stretched, but you'll find it's the best way to develop and learn. During the program, you'll be able to draw upon the experience of your team and have the guidance from your manager to make sure your career starts in the best way.
At the end of your apprenticeship, you'll be a fully qualified tradesperson and if you have the desire, you can progress into other opportunities like supervision or further post-trade study.
You’ll gain hands-on exposure to a diverse range of equipment and processes, including PLCs, drives, SCADA, high‑voltage electrical reticulation, robotics, and field instrumentation.
To be considered for this program, the below criteria is essential:

GFG Alliance is a collection of global businesses and investments owned by Sanjeev Gupta and his family. The Alliance is structured into three core industrial pillars; LIBERTY Steel Group, ALVANCE Aluminium Group and SIMEC Energy Group, independent of each other yet united through shared values and a purpose to create a sustainable future for industry and society.
Our strategy is to create an economically sustainable business model for our industries which is profitable for the long term, allows for socially sustainable development in our local communities and is carbon neutral.
Our strategy is driven by four key trends – increasing demand for steel and aluminium, the urgent need to decarbonise these sectors, the decline of traditional manufacturing industries in developed economies and the need to be globally competitive in a changing world. Our strategy enables us to identify opportunity and drive positive change in our industries.
This means modernising industrial sites that have been left behind, establishing partnerships with employees to create self-determined change and transforming manufacturing processes by harnessing renewable power and agile production. This leads to lower costs, reduced emissions and sustainable profits to secure long-term employment in the communities we operate in.
