The Electrical Apprentice supports the installation,terminationand assembly of electrical systems, including conduit, cabling, equipment, panels,sensorsand control devices. This roleassistswith the construction and fabrication of control panels and systems, including the installation of interlocking wiring and participation in wiring verification and checkout activities to ensure proper functionality, under the direction of a certified Journeyperson.

RolesandResponsibilities

  • Install andterminateconduit, cable, electrical equipment, panels,sensorsand control components in compliance with applicable codes and standards

  • Assistwith the construction andfabrication ofcontrol panels and performroughinandfinishingwiring for control systems.

  • Install interlocking wiring andassistwith wiring verification and checkoutin accordance withapplicable codes and specifications.

  • Installelectricalsystem components and wiring in compliance with applicable codes and standards, includingthe Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and where applicable,NEC, NESC, NFPA and UFC

  • Assistwith the installation, troubleshooting,repairand maintenance of electrical control circuits for motors and control devices.

  • Support the preparation of materialtakeoffsand identification of required electrical equipment and components.

  • Assistwith lockout/tagout (LOTO) and electrical isolation proceduresin accordance withcompany safety policies.

  • Support the review of facility electrical system plans and specifications andidentifyopportunities for improvements to operational performance and efficiency.

  • Assistwith testing installed,repairedormodifiedequipment to verify proper operation and performance.

Roles and Responsibilities Continued

  • Perform routine cleaning,lubricationand other basic maintenance activities asrequired

  • Maintain detailed andaccuratemaintenance reports and documentationin accordance withcompany procedures.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in electrical technologies, codes, compliancerequirementsand repair techniques.

  • Monitor electrical parts and materials usage and report any shortages,discrepanciesor material issues to supervision.

  • Assistin preparing preventative and predictive maintenance schedules.

  • Support quality control checks andinspectionreadiness by ensuring work meets drawings,specificationsand applicable standards.

  • Ensure assigned tasks and project work are completed accurately in alignment with required standards.

  • Perform assigned electrical tasks under the direction of a certified Journeyperson or designated supervisorin accordance withapprenticeship requirements.

  • Perform all dutiesin accordance withSilent-Aire safety program standards and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code.

  • Other duties may be assignedasdeemednecessary.

Knowledge,SkillsandAbilities

  • Understanding ofelectrical fundamentals, including voltage, current,resistanceand basic circuitry

  • Basic understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and applicable standards

  • Ability to work in a safety sensitive environmentand adheringto safety protocols.

  • Awareness of electrical safety practices and hazard recognition

  • Demonstratedcommitment to completing technical training and progressing toward Journeyperson certification.

  • Exposure toelectrical installation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting activities

  • Introductory ability to read and interpret drawings,schematicsand specifications

  • Introductory knowledge of motor controls,sensorsand control circuits.

  • Ability to safely use basic electrical hand tools, powertoolsand test instruments.

  • Demonstratedability to thrive in a fastpaced, highpressure production environment while effectively managing multiple competing priorities.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships.

  • Ability to interact with others in a sensitive, tactful,diplomaticand professional mannerat all times
