The Application Engineer serves as the technical lead for the New Units Commercial Operations team, supporting opportunities from initial customer engagement through project award and handoff to Project Management. This role develops technical solutions, evaluates customer requirements, prepares specifications, and supports commercial proposals for Jenbacher reciprocating gas engine power generation systems. The Application Engineer ensures proposed solutions meet customer needs, align with company standards, and support successful project execution. As the primary technical interface during the pre-order phase, this role plays a key role in securing new business while supporting risk management and approval processes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical solutions and proposals utilizing Jenbacher reciprocating gas engine technology
  • Review customer requirements and perform technical evaluations related to system integration, gas analysis, engine performance, efficiency, electrical interconnection, emissions, and operating requirements
  • Prepare technical specifications, configurations, calculations, and supporting documentation using engineering software and tools
  • Provide technical support during customer discussions, RFP reviews, proposal development, and negotiations
  • Develop technical content and commercial offerings for quotations, proposals, presentations, and complex projects
  • Evaluate technical and commercial risks while supporting approvals, special releases, and exceptions
  • Participate in technical reviews, risk assessments, and approval processes to ensure compliance with company standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate with Product Management, Engineering, and R&D to obtain technical approvals, releases, and product support
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for sales and commercial teams, providing product expertise and application guidance
  • Train internal stakeholders and communicate customer requirements and market feedback to support product improvements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project acquisition, technical clarifications, and successful handoff to project execution
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison during the pre-order phase

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of five (5) years of engineering experience within the power generation, distributed energy, utility, EPC, industrial, or related industries
  • Experience supporting power generation projects involving reciprocating engines, gas turbines, generators, switchgear, electrical distribution systems, or similar technologies preferred
  • Experience evaluating technical system designs utilizing electrical, mechanical, controls, civil, and software engineering disciplines
  • Experience supporting customers, proposals, quotations, technical sales, project development, or engineering consulting activities preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Willingness to travel domestically or internationally occasionally, as business demands
  • Valid driver’s license and valid passport
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of power generation systems, electrical integration, generators, switchgear, relays, and distributed generation applications
  • Understanding of reciprocating engines, gas turbines, or other prime mover technologies
  • Ability to interpret customer specifications, technical drawings, and engineering documentation
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, influence cross-functional stakeholders, and build customer confidence through technical expertise
  • Exceptional organizational abilities with a strong attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while effectively collaborating across cross-functional and matrixed organizations
  • Quick learner with the ability to rapidly acquire technical product, process, and system knowledge
  • Ability to work effectively in office, hybrid, and field environments
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods
