The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is seeking seasonal Election Worker Vote Center Representatives to assist in the upcoming November 3, 2026 Statewide General Election. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in the election process!

We are currently seeking dedicated and hard-working individuals for the temporary, full-time position of Vote Center Representative. Vote Center Representatives will:

  • Use an iPad tablet to verify voter eligibility.
  • Provide voters with information about the current election.
  • Guide voters on the use of electronic ballot marking devices.
  • Operate office equipment including Windows laptops, printers, and iPad tablets.
  • Assist voters with registering to vote and casting their ballot.
  • Issue ballots using Windows laptops.
  • Maintain accurate files and records.
  • Secure election materials and supplies to maintain the integrity of the election.


Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin and/or Cantonese, or Tagalog/Filipino is HIGHLY desired but not required. Fluency in Korean, Burmese, Hindi, Japanese, Indonesian, Vietnamese, or Thai is desired but not required.

Most of our positions for this role will be assigned to our 4-Day Vote Centers To be considered for this role, you MUST both complete a Live Scan in a timely manner and be available to work at least the full assignment below:

  • Onboarding (part-day): dates in September and October, somewhat flexible and subject to availability.
  • Training (full day): dates in October, subject to availability.
  • Set-up: 4 hours on October 29th or 30th, to be assigned on an individual basis.
  • Early Voting: October 31 – November 2, 8 AM – 6 PM weekdays AND weekends.
  • Election Day: November 3, 6 AM – 11 PM (in some cases, the shift might last longer to accommodate voters).

Some positions will be assigned only one day of Early Voting, with onboarding, training, and working Election Day remaining mandatory;

A limited number of positions will work at an 11-Day Vote Center, following the schedule below:

  • Onboarding (part-day): dates in September and October, somewhat flexible and subject to availability.
  • Training (full day): dates in October, subject to availability.
  • Set-up: 4 hours on October 23.
  • Early Voting: October 24 – November 2, 8 AM – 6 PM weekdays AND weekends.
  • Election Day: November 3, 6 AM – 11 PM (in some cases, the shift might last longer to accommodate voters).


The Vote Center Representative is classified as an Office Assistant I. The starting hourly wage for this position starts at $26.33.
This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and therefore work hours may vary from week to week. Extra help employees shall not exceed 1,040 hours of work per fiscal year. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.

Qualifications

Vote Center Representativecandidates will have strong organizational abilities, computer proficiency, and attention to detail. Previous knowledge of vote center procedures is desired but not required. Good candidates will also prioritize work, learn new tasks quickly, understand and carry out oral and written directions, and enjoy interacting with the public/voters.

This position may require working overtime, including long hours, weekends, evenings, and holidays. Any authorized time worked more than 40 hours in the workweek shall be considered overtime and shall be compensable at the rate of one and one-half (1-1/2) times the overtime worked. The selected individuals must be available for the entire employment period until the completion of their assignment.
