Job Description

Hendrickson is searching for an engineer to join their Elastomers Business Unit at their Kendallville, IN facility. This individual will be responsible for developing elastomeric and other suspension components.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Manages all technical aspects of multiple projects utilizing Hendrickson’s Simultaneous Product and Process Development (SPPD) process.
  • Provides engineering solutions with strong focus on performance, quality, program timing, cost and manufacturability.
  • Coordinates with CAD, FEA, test engineering, process engineering, program management and other departments in support of all projects.
  • Coordinates prototype molding activities and oversee validation of all development products.
  • Designs, develops and sources prototype assembly equipment as required.
  • Supports quoting efforts and assists in sourcing prototype components.
  • Provides support for prototype and production manufacturing, including addressing any quality-related concerns.
  • Effectively presents technical solutions to both internal and external customers.
  • Applies Design for Manufacturing principles and ensures production readiness in accordance with APQP standards.
  • Enhances existing product designs to improve performance, quality and cost targets.
  • Represents Hendrickson and the Elastomers Business Unit professionally at trade shows and during both internal and external customer interactions.
  • Drives continuous improvement through employee development, process improvement and elimination of waste.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in technical discipline required.
  • BSME / BSAgE / BSAeroE / BSCHE preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive, heavy truck or related fields of elastomer product engineering.
  • Experience with castings, forgings, fabrications, stampings, and mold design preferred.
  • Demonstrated product innovation.
  • Project management experience (preferred).
  • Experience with dynamic structural analysis, finite element analysis and fatigue analysis preferred.
  • Proficient experience / use of CAD (NX preferred) & PLM (Teamcenter preferred) software.
  • Proficiency in reading and applying Dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) principles for print development, precision gauging and inspection methodologies.
  • A Demonstrated depth of technical and professional knowledge of elastomer product engineering.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including ability to drive issues to resolution.
  • Experience leading project execution with a strong sense of ownership to achieve goals with commitment to quality.
  • An adaptability to changing business conditions and priorities.

Working conditions include but are not limited to:

  • Frequently sitting and working at computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional standing and walking on concrete.
  • Occasional climbing stairs and fixed/vertical ladders.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull carts (minimal 25 lbs.) and parts (minimal 60 lbs).
  • Ability to drive as required.
  • Ability to travel to customers, suppliers and other Hendrickson facilities as required.
  • Willingness to work in a test laboratory or manufacturing environment as required to support project activities.
  • Exposure to R&D lab and manufacturing setting.
