Position: EL Educational Assistant
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6 hours/day, student contact days
Start Date: ASAP
Pay: $23.34, with an additional $.75 per hour for an Bachelor's degree or an additional $1.25 per hour for an Masters degree

Required Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or GED and one of the following:
    • An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, or
    • Two years of post-secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution of higher education which are applicable toward a bachelors degree, or
    • Passing score of 460 (or higher) on the ParaPro Assessment. (For more information on the ParaPro Assessment, contact Educational Testing Service at 1-800-772-9476 or www.ets.org/parapro)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Title 1 or classroom education assistant
  • Language learning experience or fluency in Hmong, Spanish, Somali, or Karen.
  • Experience working with diverse linguistic and cultural communities

Responsibilities:

  • Support the instruction for ML students according to the guidelines provided by the ML teacher.
  • Guide students' personal and social development within and outside the ESL setting by establishing rules/procedures and by exposing them to cultural nuances.
  • Communicate with ML supervising teachers regarding student progress in the general curriculum.
  • Assess and maintain student learning results by administering and scoring tests and providing feedback, as directed by the ML teacher.
  • Implement Can Do standards in the classroom related to World Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) rubrics.
  • Encourage students' first and second cultural development by using multicultural materials, and by talking/writing a comparison of cultures.
  • Implement directives from administration and ML teachers.
  • Coordinate workspace and time schedules with principal and other staff.
  • Support and assist ML students and families for increased family engagement and home/school connections.
  • Maintain an equity-focused approach to advocate and support students and families.
  • Maintain and increase professional knowledge by attending educational workshops.
  • Promote a safe and productive learning environment for ML students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be physically able to lift more than 40 pounds when applicable.
  • Able to sit, walk, climb, crouch, kneel, push, talk and hear.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
