Job Description

Under the direction of the Officer and Director of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) this position will work as a member of the Occupational Safety (OS) Team.

Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, assisting Occupational Specialist/s in daily duties related to complete occupational safety assessments, required inspections of eyewash and safety shower stations across campus.

Additionally, this position will support the administrative processes associated with EHS safety program management and respective software .

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists OS Specialist in general day-to-day duties which may include vehicle cleaning or department equipment organization.
  • Assists OS Specialist with occupational assessments undertaken with LU departments campus-wide
  • Assists OS Specialist with weekly and annual inspections of eyewash stations and safety showers for LU departments campus-wide
  • Assists OS Specialist with EHS OS management software data input
  • Assists OS Specialist with Hazardous Chemical software and Safety Data Sheet field management engagement with LU departments campus-wide
  • Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.
  • Reports to work at assigned times and performs any duties assigned by the Senior Occupational Safety Compliance Officer or EHS Director.
  • Scan and file documents.
  • Distribute PPE to employees.
  • Answer phone and greet visitors to department.
  • Assist with meeting preparation.
  • Assist with fire drills.
  • Assist with fire extinguisher and AED inspections.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Education and Experience

High School diploma, no other qualifications required

ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES ESSENTIAL TO THE FUNCTION OF THE JOB

Communication and Comprehension

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well articulated information.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
  • Possess good communication skills allowing professional deportment as a Liberty University EHS team member.
  • Computer skills as required by department including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, Adobe Pro, Bluebeam, and any other software as required for the administration of the department.

Problem Solving

  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of a routine nature.

Physical and Sensory Abilities

  • May be required to sit to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
  • Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the campus.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 or fewer pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the administrative functions of this position is in the EHS office, which is a climate-controlled setting. It is well lit and the noise level is moderate. The working environment will also include facilitation of work outdoors generally loading or moving equipment from vehicles to the work location..
