Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Metals Manufacturing EHS Specialist to oversee the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs at our smaller metals manufacturing plant. This role will report directly to the Senior EHS Manager - Manufacturing (Aluminum Boats and Steel Boat Trailers) and will be responsible for a wide range of EHS duties to ensure a safe and compliant working environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Safety Management:

  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs to ensure a safe working environment at the metals manufacturing plant.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide safety training and education to employees at all levels, promoting a strong safety culture.

2. Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics:

  • Conduct industrial hygiene studies and readings to determine hazardous exposure to employees.
  • Perform ergonomics studies to improve workplace design and reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders.
  • Develop white papers and business case studies with Return on Investment (ROI) for improvements in engineered controls, PPE, etc.

3. Environmental Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including hazardous waste disposal and air quality management.
  • Manage hazardous waste disposal and reporting in accordance with RCRA requirements.
  • Oversee air emissions monitoring and reporting to ensure compliance with Title V permits.
  • Develop and implement environmental management systems and policies.

4. Program Management and Development:

  • Maintain EHS programs, policies, and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and report on EHS performance metrics and trends.
  • Collaborate with plant management to implement best practices and standardize EHS processes across the plant.

5. Training and Development:

  • Design and deliver EHS training programs for employees and management.
  • Ensure that all employees are adequately trained on EHS policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

6. Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Foster a culture of safety and environmental stewardship across the manufacturing plant.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and provide guidance and support to plant management on EHS matters.
  • Influence and drive change to improve safety and environmental performance.

7. Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for improving environmental performance and sustainability.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance environmental compliance and safety performance.
  • Conduct regular reviews of EHS programs and suggest necessary adjustments based on findings.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in EHS management within a manufacturing environment, preferably in metals or similar industries.
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene principles and ergonomics.
  • Experience in supporting safety programs and business case studies with ROI.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various departments and external stakeholders.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Ongoing verification of driving eligibility will be conducted to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Must be at least 21 years old to qualify for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other relevant EHS certifications.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001 standards.
  • Master’s degree in a related field.

Frequent:

Infrequent:

  • Develop and present reports on training effectiveness and compliance metrics.
  • Participate in strategic EHS projects and initiatives aimed at improving sustainability and compliance.
  • Prepare for and coordinate external regulatory audits, responding to findings and implementing required corrective actions.
  • Conduct advanced training sessions and workshops for EHS personnel.
  • Conduct and lead safety committee meetings.
  • Review, evaluate, and develop emergency response procedures for the facility.
  • Coordinate training for Emergency Response Personnel.
  • Identify and assess potential health hazards and develop mitigation strategies.

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT

Performs tasks and duties under direct supervision, using well-defined policies and procedures. Work is reviewed by supervisor. Limited opportunity exists for exercising independent judgment and decision making.
