A Brief Summary of This Position

This position serves as Valmont’s Specialist,Environmental, Health & Safety,enabling overall company strategy in driving continuous improvement withEHSbest practices across theorganization.This position requires individual initiative on special projects to complete a wide variety of tasks that are part of Valmont’s comprehensiveEHSinitiatives. This includesparticipatingin andfacilitatingthesitelevelEHSteams and initiatives The position willsupportimplementationof Valmont’sEHSPlaybook for the siteThe Specialist,EHSfacilitates the alignment ofthe site’sEHSactivities with Valmont’s overallenterprise wideEHSstrategies. The incumbent is responsibletoswiftlydetectsub-standardEHSperformance using leading and lagging indicators andtakeactionin conjunction with appropriate site and regional leadership teams. It is critical that theEHSSpecialistassistsothers in their growth and knowledge inSafety, Health & Environmentalpractices. It is expected that the Specialist,EHSinteractswith site production employees toidentifyand control hazards that can result in harm

Essential Functions

  • Reports directly to theEHSManager orGeneral/Plant Manager, with matrixed reporting to the Regional Safety Managerand has no direct or indirect reports

  • Supportsdevelopment, maintenance, and continuous improvement efforts to facilitateEHSstrategic initiatives

  • Partners with regional and site management to ensure consistent deployment of standards,campaignsand initiatives across the organization

  • Supports the development and implementation ofthe site-specific annualEHSgoalsto measurablyreducerisks and impacts.

  • Will learn and gainexpertisein the company’s Environment,Healthand Safety(EHS)information management system to manage data related toEHSevents such as injuries, workers compensation claims,near-missincidents and internal and external inspections, and environmental permits

  • Assistsin conductingthe risk assessment process to recognize, evaluate, and control hazards throughout the site

  • Participatesin andfacilitatesthe deployment of environment,healthand safety teams (e.g., Safety Committee,etc.) andfacilitatestheir engagement in ownership of the activitiesrequiredtomaintaincompliance, reduce the site’s environmentfootprintand drive continuous improvement

  • Assiststheteam-basedincident investigation process tohelp identifyappropriate rootcause andhelpsfacilitatecorrective actionmeasures

  • Collects data for reporting andpermitsubmittals for multi-media environmental regulatory requirements

  • Successful completion of the ValmontEHSSpecialist curriculum withinthreemonths of hire

  • Serves as a liaison between regional and site management, riskmanagementand human resources on applicable topics

  • Assistsin the development andimplementation of emergency management and business continuity programs

  • Supports serious post incident reviews at their site, communication of incidents that result or have the potential to result inserious injury; partners with RegionalEHSDirectors/Managers and site representatives toidentifyroot causes and preventive actions are effectively deployed across the organization

  • Assistswithtraining/mentoring to regional/site representatives to strengthenEHScompliance and best practices

  • Formulates and implements actions on variousEHStopics, as necessary, and shares updates with leadership

  • Facilitates the implementation of training programsto ensure regulatory compliance and incident best practices

  • Stay current withEHS property conservation regulations and standards

  • Demonstrates a commitment to the Valmont Core Values

RequiredQualificationsofEvery Candidate(Education, Experience, Knowledge,Skillsand Abilities)

  • PreferredBachelor’s or Associate’sdegree with 3 years of EHS or related experience, OR 5 years ofexperience ofEHS or related experience

  • EHSresponsibility with an emphasis on implementation and maintenance of environmental, health and safety programs, fire prevention,sustainabilityand risk management

  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations.

  • Experience conducting safety inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently or as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and communicate clearly and effectively with diverse audiences across various professional settings.

  • Proficiencyin Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint for creating professional training, audit, and management presentations; Excel for data analysis, metric tracking, spreadsheet creation, formulas, and basic data visualization; and Word for drafting, formatting, and maintaining policies, procedures, reports, and regulatory documentation.

  • Track recordof making effective decisions, even when dealing with limited or ambiguous information

  • Ability to lead or support corporate, division, businessunitand site teams responsible for managingEHSrisks

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also PossessThese Qualifications

  • Previousexperience withmulti-nationalcompanies with progressiveEHSprograms

  • Experience with OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) or ISO 45001, 14001 desired

  • Prior experience implementing and/ormaintainingan enterprise-wide database system

  • Experience in a similar heavy manufacturing industry

Working Environment and Physical Efforts

The primary workingconditionfor this position is a manufacturing shop environment with exposure to dirt, grease, fumes, cold, heat, noise, dustThere will also be times whenEHSSpecialistworks in an office environmentPersonal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and hard hats may be required in most manufacturingareas,and it is theEHSSpecialist’sresponsibility to ensure that all people (employees, vendors, customers, visitors) are in conformance with all safety requirements and that all employees are enforcing the safety requirements consistently and without exception.The incumbentis regularly required tosit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetingsEnvironmentis fast paced and demanding most of the timeThe employeefrequentlyis required touse hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computerThe employeeis occasionally required tomoveaboutthe officeIncumbent mustutilizeproper ergonomic safeguards such asmonitorheight and positions, keyboard location and height and properwristsrests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipmentSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
