As an EHS Specialist, you are a key member of the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team, reporting to a Regional EHS Manager. You will contribute to Ball’s success by supporting plant EHS function, and ensuring that the plant EHS meets Ball’s overall environmental health and safety plans and objectives; driving the organization towards outstanding safety performance. In this role, you will work in both an office and manufacturing environments.
** This position will support plants located in our Eastern Region of the United States. Preferred home base location would be at one of the following Ball locations: Pittston, PA; Saratoga Springs, NY; Tampa, FL or Winterhaven, FL, or Rome, GA. **
Your Key Areas of Responsibility Include:
- Support plants within assigned region to maintain a safe and secure work environment; including: facilitating monthly safety teams/meetings, perform monthly safety inspections/audits, investigate accidents/manage corrective actions, and correct unsafe acts/conditions as required.
- Partner with Plant EHS, Engineering and Production to administer plant environmental, health and safety processes, such as accident investigation, lockout/tagout, confined space, safety audits, etc.
- Facilitate environmental programs and activities associated with regulatory compliance in accordance with Ball policies.
- Support EHS procedures and drive awareness regarding labelling, storage, spills, or disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
- Understand and remain current on safety and environmental requirements.
- Compile and prepare data to support regulatory reports preparation.
- Provide support and assist in maintaining plant environmental, health and safety activities including, but not limited to the following: MSDS files, hazard communication program, environmental educational programs, hazardous waste program, hazardous materials program, air program, storm water program, wastewater discharge program, etc.
- Support the Regional/Plant EHS Manager for agency and company environmental, health and safety inquiries, inspections, audits, construction projects and community concern communications.
- Maintain thorough familiarity with all aspects of the emergency contingency plan for each facility.
- Wear appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing, and footwear in appropriate areas and follow safety practices; this position is exposed to occupational hazards, including but not limited to, high noise levels, physical obstacles, exposure to chemicals, temperature extremes, etc.
Required Experience, Competencies and Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial/Environmental Engineering or Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety or other relevant discipline or at least 2 years of work-related experience in an EHS role.
- Minimum 6 months of Environmental, Health and Safety experience through internships or professional experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong facilitation, communication, and change management skills.
- Familiarity with some or all the following areas: safety and environmental regulations, OSHA requirements, environmental principles, procedures terminology and generally accepted managerial practices and procedures.
- Ability to understand, interpret and administer OSHA Regulations, company policies, procedures, practices, and standards of conduct.
- Demonstrated ability to manage workload with a high degree of mental effort due to considerable interruptions and/or frequent changes of activity or workloads during a typical working day.
- Ability to handle sensitive related and proprietary information in a confidential manner.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% travel within the region and to relocate in 1-2 years.
Preferred Experience, Competencies and Skills:
- Experience with OSHA regulations and principles and past experience (i.e. EHS internship) as an EHS professional.
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Expected Hiring Salary Range: $66,700 - $93,160 (Salary to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)

- Onsite Work Environment: This position will be based at one of the following plant locations, travel up to 50% Travel and local commute between Ball locations and other possible non-Ball locations will be required. When not traveling, this role will be expected to be onsite at a plant 5 days/week.
- Locations: Rome, Georgia; Saratoga Springs, New York; Pittston, Pennsylvania; Tampa or Winterhaven, Florida.
