Job Description

We are seeking an EHS Director who is responsible for providing strategic leadership, direction, and oversight for all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs across the organization. This role develops and implements policies, systems, and initiatives that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements while promoting a strong safety culture focused on prevention, continuous improvement, and employee engagement. The EHS Director partners closely with Operations, HR, Quality, Engineering, and Executive Leadership to drive safety performance, reduce risk, and support operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

· Develop and execute the company’s EHS strategy, goals, and performance metrics in alignment with business objectives.

· Establish long-term plans for reducing incidents, improving environmental compliance, and enhancing overall safety culture.

· Serve as the senior subject matter expert on EHS matters for leadership, regulators, and employees.

· Ensure full compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulations, including permitting, reporting, and documentation.

· Maintain corporate EHS policies, procedures, and management systems to meet regulatory requirements and best practices.

· Oversee audits, inspections, and compliance assessments across all facilities and ensure timely corrective actions.

· Manage relationships with regulatory agencies and respond to inquiries, inspections, and compliance actions.

· Oversee environmental reporting and compliance, including hazardous waste management, stormwater, air emissions, SPCC, and sustainability initiatives.

· Drive environmental stewardship and reduction of the company’s environmental footprint.

· Lead initiatives that strengthen a proactive safety culture, emphasizing hazard recognition, ownership, and “safety-first” decision-making.

· Partners with operations leadership to promote accountability, safe work behaviors, and employee participation in safety programs.

· Provide oversight and guidance for safety committees, employee training, and behavior-based safety initiatives.

· Provide leadership for incident response, investigations, root-cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.

· Analyze trends, KPIs, and risk assessments to identify opportunities for reducing injuries, incidents, and environmental impacts.

· Support business continuity planning and emergency response preparedness.

· Oversee development and delivery of EHS training programs for employees, supervisors, and leadership.

· Ensure training compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards.

· Mentor, develop, and lead the EHS team, including managers, specialists, and technicians.

· Partner with Operations, HR, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance to support organizational initiatives such as new equipment installation, process changes, capital projects, and onboarding.

· Collaborate with HR on workers’ compensation claims management and return-to-work programs.

· Work closely with Supply Chain on hazardous materials, contractor safety, and vendor requirements.

· Manage EHS budgets, resources, and vendor contracts.

· Prepare and present EHS performance reports and recommendations to executive leadership.

· Oversee documentation, recordkeeping, and EHS systems and software.

Qualifications:

Required:

· Bachelor's degree in environmental health & safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field

· 8–10+ years of progressive EHS experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role

· Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and applicable state/local regulations

· Strong experience implementing and managing EHS programs in a manufacturing or industrial setting

· Proven ability to lead teams, influence others, and drive organizational change

· Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills

· Experience with multi-site or multi-state operations

Preferred:

· Master's degree in environmental health & safety, Engineering, or related field

· Experience leading EHS programs in high-volume or engineered-to-order manufacturing environments

· Experience in union and non-union workforce environments

· Background in environmental permitting, sustainability, or corporate ESG initiatives

· Experience with incident management systems, EHS software, or digital safety platforms

· Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies
