Job Description

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator will support the EHS Manager in the strategic planning, direction and oversight of the EH&S functions at the brand. This role will support the recommended changes to protect workers and educate employees using safety training programs and tools to prevent accidents. This includes development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of policies and procedures, regulatory compliance, programs and training; and integration of environmental health and safety into all functional areas at the brand location.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with planning and implementing EH&S policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Attend and maintain Safety Training and First Aid training.
  • Investigate and implement ideas to improve Environmental Health and Safety Department.
  • Coordinate EH&S activities and culture through strong leadership and communication.
  • Coordinate and provide ongoing EH&S training for all employees. Assist with new employee safety orientation.
  • Conduct routine safety observation tours; follow-up on open issues.
  • Coordinate emergency procedures, training, and practice drills.
  • Coordinate chemical awareness training and monitor on a continuous basis.
  • Train supervisors and employees to meet standards and enhance the company safety culture.
  • Investigate work related incidents, injuries, and/or illnesses and determine a root cause to ensure mitigation.
  • Coordinate with appropriate EH&S analysts, hygienists, consultants, engineers, and suppliers related to the EH&S needs of the organization as directed.
  • Assist in the development of effective EH&S countermeasure to continuously improve safety objectives.
  • Lead the safety committee and help coordinate activities, recommendations, and accountability of identified issues.
  • Maintain EH&S tracking reports and provide statistical analysis to take action to fix identified gaps.
  • Serve as a positive leader and mentor brand sites by exhibiting and instructing desirable behaviors, culture, and skill sets.
  • Organize materials at workstation and department according to 6S standards.
  • Maintain record keeping for applicable EH&S programs.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work environment. Correct any unsafe conditions or behaviors and drive a culture of safe behavior.
  • Knowledge of the STPS self-management system
  • Knowledge of the implementation of the ISO 450001 system in another metalworking industry
  • Know all the official Mexican standards of the STPS, SEMARNAT, Health.
  • Having a high level of frustration management, necessary to implement EHS systems on site.
  • Having the ability to document all new procedures based on regulations and corporate requirements
  • Properly manage the team of security guards on site
  • Perform other related and non-related duties as assigned by EHS Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma is required. Bachelor’s degree in EH&S or a related degree preferred.

  • None.

  • Knowledge of EH&S policies and procedures.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality.
  • Familiarity with state and federal EHS laws.
  • Strong training ability.

  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.

Travel

  • Minimal travel is required; less than 1%.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This position is subject to Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls require exertion of force greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Physical Activities

  • This position is subject to the following physical activities: standing, walking, lifting, talking, hearing, and the use of hands, wrists or fingers in a repetitive motion.

Visual Acuity

  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

Working Conditions

  • This position requires being on the production floor at least 40% of the time, in order to provide feedback and negotiate with managers, supervisors, and leaders on how to implement the EHS work plan.
