Eaton’s ES GEIS BLD division is currently seeking a EHS Continuous Improvement Specialist (1st Shift). The hourly rate for this position is $28.07 per hour.

CORE HOURS: 6AM - 2:30PM

What you’ll do

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Continuous Improvement Specialist is responsible for driving workplace safety improvements through incident investigation, root cause analysis, ergonomic risk reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position partners closely With production, engineering, maintenance, operations, and leadership teams to identify risks, investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and improve overall safety performance across the facility.

The successful candidate will spend significant time on the manufacturing floor engaging employees, observing work processes, identifying opportunities for improvement, and leading projects that reduce risk, improve ergonomics, eliminate hazards, and strengthen Eaton's safety culture.

This position serves as a key resource for incident investigations and corrective action management white helping drive sustainable improvements through employee engagement, data analysis, and practical problem- solving.

In this function you will:

Incident Investigation & Corrective Action Management

  • Lead investigations involving injuries, first aid cases, near misses, property damage events, safety observations, environmental incidents, and other workplace events.
  • Conduct root cause analysis utilizing structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Gather evidence, interview employees, collect witness statements, and document investigation findings.
  • Develop comprehensive investigation reports, corrective action plans, and leadership presentations.
  • Assign, track, and verify completion of corrective actions.
  • Evaluate corrective action effectiveness and identify opportunities for additional risk reduction.
  • Monitor trends and identify recurring issues requiring systemic improvement.

Continuous Improvement

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on employee safety, risk reduction, and operational effectiveness.
  • Participate in Kaizen activities and improvement events.
  • Identify opportunities to eliminate hazards through process improvements and engineering controls.
  • Utilize structured problem-solving tools including 5 Why Analysis, fishbone diagrams, A3 problem solving, process mapping, and PDCA methodology.
  • Work with site leadership to prioritize and implement sustainable improvements.

Ergonomics Program Support

  • Perform ergonomic assessments throughout manufacturing operations.
  • Identify risk factors associated with musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Develop recommendations to reduce ergonomic stressors.
  • Partner with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to implement ergonomic improvements.
  • Track ergonomic projects and validate improvement effectiveness.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in manufacturing, environmental health and safety, industrial engineering, continuous improvement, operations, or a related field.
  • Experience conducting investigations and problem solving in a manufacturing environment.
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Reno, NV will be considered. Active-Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, Business, or related field.
  • Experience leading incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Experience conducting ergonomic assessments.
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and manufacturing safety programs.
  • Experience working within EHS management systems.
  • Experience presenting information to leadership teams.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills preferred.
  • Experience with MESH, Benchmark, Gensuite, or similar management systems.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism during investigations.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Employee must be able to work safely in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment while wearing required PPE, including safety glasses, steel-toe shoes with met guards, and area-specific PPE such as FR clothing and hearing protection when required.
