Job Description

Finance Controller

Classification: Full Time, Permanent

Salary $80,000 to $90,000 per annum

Location Quesnel, BC

Deadline: Open until filled

Reporting to the Band Manager, the Finance Controller is responsible for the financial operations of ʔEsdilagh First Nation and ensures accuracy in accounting practices. The Finance Controller will have a strong understanding of financial reporting, compliance and budgeting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly financial reports for Chief & Council
  • Manage all aspects of accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions
  • Direct and supervise the Finance Officer
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements and reports to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Communicate financial metrics to senior management
  • Conduct account reconciliation and analysis to maintain accurate financial records
  • Develop and implement budgeting processes to support organizational goals
  • Prepare monthly and annual operating budgets
  • Develop and manage financial controls in accordance with ʔEsdilagh’s procedures
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide financial insights and support decision-making processes
  • Ensure the integrity of financial data by implementing effective internal controls
  • Oversee all tax filings, statutory reporting, and liaise with external auditors
  • Ensure all files are organized and maintained, and all office processes are streamlined for most efficient and effective operation

Requirements

  • 5+ years Controller experience leading a finance/ accounting team
  • Advanced knowledge of Canadian financial accounting practices
  • CPA an asset
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills
  • Experience with financial software (e.g. Sage) and advanced Excel
  • Knowledge of Sage Intacct is an asset
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, evolving environment and manage multiple priorities

Working Conditions

  • Travel may be required
  • Ability to attend and conduct presentations
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and additional hardware
  • Overtime as required
  • Lifting or moving up to 10lbs may be required
