Under the guidance of an Electroneurodiagnostic (END) Tech I or II, the EEG Technologist in Training assists in performing specialized electroencephalographic (EEG) procedures, including test set up, electrode application, and ensuring patient safety during clinically significant events, and other related duties associated with neurodiagnostic procedures. The EEG Technologist in Training is an entry level position to train and support the EEG unit. This position will work towards becoming registry eligible, and registered in electroencephalography in preparation for the END Tech I/II position. This position provides direct patient care and may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates effectively with the patient and explains test procedures.
  • Sets up and calibrates necessary equipment.
  • Reviews records and interviews patients to obtain additional information.
  • Operates various non-invasive monitoring devices.
  • Records observations and analyzes test data to ensure appropriate data is collected.
  • Assists END Tech I/II's in advanced procedures for epilepsy, wada, depths, electrocerebral silence
  • (ECS) and evoked potential (EP).
  • Maintains lab equipment, ensures room is clean, institutes quality control procedures.
  • Ensures labs are properly stocked and supplies ordered.
  • Maintains patients safety through communication to other patient care staff.
  • May perform various TCD modalities.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
  • Knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
  • Ability to assimilate data from various sources.
  • Ability to display active listening and verbalize empathy.
  • Ability to quickly learn new procedures and process.
  • Ability to develop relationships with patients, guest and coworkers.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to insure patient information is guarded and respected.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required

  • High School diploma, or the equivalency.
  • Must become eligible for promotion into the EEG Tech I role within one (1) year of entry into the role.

Licenses Required

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications (Preferred)

Preferred

  • Associate's degree, or enrollment in a CAAHEP accredited Electroneurodiagnostic Program.
  • Six (6) months of working experience in a patient care environment.
  • Enrollment in the Utah END Institute.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation.

  • This position involves intermediate working conditions in a healthcare setting that may exert up to 50 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving patients or objects, such as medical equipment, while providing patient care.
