Job Description

of Essential Functions

  • Responsible for assessing the educational needs of the staff and new employees.
  • Designs and implements educational programs that meet identified needs.
  • Continuously assists management in evaluating nursing practice and designing methodologies to improve standard of care.
  • Provides leadership, clinical expertise, and functional direction to other member of the health care team.

Educational Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited Professional Nursing Program.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current licensure state of Texas as Professional Nurse.
  • Specialty Certification preferred.
  • Patient Care Services Educator
    • BLS, ACLS
  • Critical Care
    • BLS, ACLS
  • Emergency Services
    • BLS, ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, PALS
  • Women’s & Children’s Services
    • BLS, STABLE, NRP, PALS

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Experiences which have provided opportunities to develop skills in teaching.
  • Demonstrates strong clinical skills.
  • Able to coordinate, facilitate and manage various educational activities.
  • Utilizes effective communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, family, visitors, health care industry representatives, physicians, department personnel and other allied health care providers.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and able to set priorities using critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Skilled at effective time management, attention to detail, and multitasking.
  • Communicates effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, including public speaking.
  • Able to tailor education to the individual learner.
  • Demonstrations strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate and timely recordkeeping.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires walking, standing, or sitting for extensive periods of time as well as pushing and pulling of equipment.
  • Medium strength requirement: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
  • Involves minimal temperature and moderate noise level changes.
  • Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and hand-to-eye coordination.
  • Corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assesses educational learning needs based on standards established by accrediting agencies, PI monitoring results, administration / staff request, class evaluations, and other assessment techniques.
  • Demonstrates and implement development of assigned courses, classes, and activities, based on current clinical and educational practices. Ensures that content is relative to age-specific patient populations.
  • Collaborates with other Educators in planning/development of orientation, in-services, and other hospital-wide educational offerings.
  • Able to effectively solve problems through fact-finding, research, facilitation, forming plan of action and evaluation of outcomes. Utilizes data collection to determine if problem is structural, process or outcome based, and works with management to formulate change.
  • Participates as a liaison between United Regional and the community for health-related activities.
  • Able to share knowledge and skills of direct and indirect care to patients when: orienting new employees and students, identifying learning needs of the staff, providing in-service education, seminars, and workshops, and developing and initiating action plan for competence assessments.
  • Serves as a liaison between providers and hospital personnel for the purposes of training and education.
  • Maintains knowledge and competence for clinical practice staying abreast of nursing trends, policies, procedures, and regulations specific to area of practice.
  • Collaborates with other educators to manage and maintain the Learning Management System.
  • Performs all other tasks/responsibilities as necessary.
