Job Description

Demonstrates application of the nursing process as a role model and consistently promotes the professional image of nursing. Able to keep up to date with the latest evidence based practice to validate staff competencies and present didactic presentations. Also follows new staff throughout their classroom and clinical orientation. Successfully completes all clinical competencies and testing annually.

Responsibilities

Customer Services:

  • Communicate in a professional manner.
  • Follows telephone etiquette.
  • Adheres to principles of enhancing positive patient experience.
  • Maintains security with computer access.
  • Follows HIPAA Guidelines established by Bronx Care Health System.
  • Completes a learning needs assessment on all units.
  • Manages time effectively and is organized.
  • Through Staff Orientation leads/assists groups to enhance the clinical practice of nurses and improve patient outcomes.
  • Designs programs and creates lesson plans that are congruent with the organizations strategic plans, regulatory requirements, and nursing standards.
  • Participates in a weekly clinical assessment of New Orientee’s progress with the unit support team.
  • Advances nursing practice through participation in professional organizations, publications and presentations.
  • Facilitates teamwork at all times, addresses issues and concerns with peers, subordinates and supervisor with a positive problem solving approach. As approachable and cooperative.

1. Nursing/Nursing Practice

  • Acts as a “lead” for monthly Orientation to facilitate the program.
  • Organizes and coordinates staff in-services.
  • Provides unit education and creates practice alerts for certain practice changes.
  • Collaborates with nurses to develop practice environments that support shared decision making.
  • Assists the staff in developing critical thinking and clinical judgment.
  • Creates a nursing care environment that stimulates continuous self-learning, reflective practice, feeling of ownership and demonstration of responsibility and accountability.
  • Collaborates with nurse managers on content and operational design of orientation, clinical competency and other clinical educational program development.
  • Provides educational support for all new and experienced staff.
  • Performs waive tests according to policy and procedure.

1. Direct Patient Care

  • Serves as a reliable source of information on the latest evidence supporting cost effective, safe nursing practices.
  • Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team using the nursing process to integrate the nursing perspective into a comprehensive plan of care of the patient/family.
  • Facilitates educational programs for patients, families and groups.
  • Identifies, collects and analyzes data that serve as a basis for program design and outcome measurement.

1. Accountability/Work Ethic

· Demonstrates an understanding of the organizations fire/safety plan, emergency preparedness plan and patient safety goals.

  • Wears employee ID badge at all times.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in schedule to accommodate organization needs.
  • Accepts special projects as determined by Director of Education & Research

  • Attitude – Presents to patients/customers with appropriate attitude.

Qualifications

  • All RNs - graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Experienced RNs – progressive clinical experience at least 2 years
