The Educational Developmental Assistant (EDA) serves as a lead instructional trainer in a home setting by providing specialized instructional training and educational activities to individuals to maximize independence in a variety of skill areas which may include self-care, communication, socialization, domestic, dining, meal preparation, utilizing appliances and kitchen equipment and money management. The EDA assists teachers and/or active treatment coordinators in assessing individual strengths, needs, and preferences to support the development of effective instructional training objectives and educational activities. They are responsible for direct instruction, ensuring proper daily implementation, monitoring instructional progress and maintaining accurate documentation of progress, as well as ensuring all staff are trained and familiar with training objectives. They are also responsible for providing feedback and recommendations to address ongoing progress and program development while keeping accurate records of responses to instruction (data) on instructional objectives for all assigned individuals. Additionally, the EDA position serves as an educational assistant for all other educational task assigned by the teacher or active treatment coordinator. They also serve as an educational support staff in the home setting and other instructional areas as directed by the teacher or active treatment coordinator.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $31,200.00 – $48,810.00

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs )/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Considerable knowledge of fundamental educational instructional principles, instructional techniques and methodologies; data collection systems, and positive reinforcement methods. Knowledge of practical application of behavioral management techniques. Ability to create positive relationships in order to assess client skills, encourage learning and evaluate client progress.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal directives. Ability to problem solve and communicate effectively with team members and supervisors. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, be open to feedback and work collaboratively to accomplish educational goals.

  • Ability to instruct; to establish rapport and relate to population served, their families and variety of service disciplines (occupational therapist, speech/language pathologist, dietitians, social workers, psychologist, nurses, medical professionals and home managers). Ability to be a positive role model, encourage participation and engagement with all individuals and staff.

  • Ability to learn and follow instructional methodologies, responses to instruction documentation (data), positive reinforcement techniques, behavioral plan implementation and sanitation and safety guidelines. Communicate effectively in oral and written form. Basic knowledge of computer applications for training requirements.

  • Management Preference Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education. Two years minimum experience providing educational services to people with developmental disabilities or autism or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements:

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Other: Standing, Walking, Pushing Wheelchairs, Reaching, Talking, Listening, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Pulling, Lifting, Fingering, Grasping, Feeling, Repetitive Motions, Visual Acuity, & Inside and Outside Activities.

This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

Work Hours: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
