Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7.5 hours/day, 190 days/year
Job Goal: To enhance student achievement by providing consultation, coaching, and support to schools, families, and communities in both public and non-public schools in the CAIU region.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Participates as a member of educational team(s) and attends meetings as necessary and appropriate.
2. Provides contracted consultative services to member school districts and charter schools delivering expertise, customer service, and responsiveness.
3. Assesses student needs; progress; and performance in social, emotional and behavioral, academic, and/or developmental areas.
4. Provides case management services (i.e., ongoing review of student needs; resources; progress; performance; and acts as liaison between school, family, and community agencies) as applicable.
5. Participates and provides professional development on pertinent topics related to the program assigned.
6. Facilitates student and/or family referral to appropriate resources when appropriate.
7. Maintains contact with appropriate agencies, private physicians and/or therapists, school district personnel, etc., regarding student needs and progress as appropriate.
8. Assists in the development, maintenance, and implementation of crisis management plans when appropriate.
9. Assists staff in the development and application of management techniques and strategies that supports the delivery of effective instruction.
10. Attends staff meetings as assigned.
11. Completes all required reports and records within established timelines as required by Federal and State regulations and adheres to CAIU policies and procedures.
12. Completes all required documentation and communication, in a timely and accurate manner, according to CAIU team procedures and protocols.
13. Assists in determining program needs for materials and equipment including the preparation of purchase orders.
14. Maintains a knowledge base of current theories and practices in the field by attending pertinent Professional Development/Continuing Education programs, networking with professional colleagues, and reading relevant professional literature.
15. Transports students when necessary and only when accompanied by another staff member.
16. Works with the Program Supervisor to plan and implement program operations.
17. Coordinates the intake and discharge of students.
18. Supports the mission of the CAIU and its Comprehensive Plan.
19. Assumes any other responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor or his/her designee.
20. Assumes any other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director or his/her designee.

QualificationsKnowledge and Requirements:
- The candidate must have a Level II Certification and at least five years of teaching experience. Special Education certification, Instructional Coaching, and experience with the evaluation process are also highly preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of special education processes. Knowledge of Equitable Participation also highly preferred.
- The ideal candidate will provide consultation and coaching to teachers and administrators across multiple non-public schools, with a strong emphasis on implementing and sustaining best instructional practices for students with disabilities.
- This consultant will oversee requests for evaluation in non-public schools and provide ongoing support to school psychologists throughout the evaluation process.
- Will provide training and ongoing support to surrogate parents within the CAIU region
- Provide consultation and coaching to public school districts in support of the Cyclical Monitoring for Continuous Improvement (CMCI) process.

Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s Degree (Masters preferred) in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Elementary Education, or Core Subject Education, depending upon the specific position and posting.
2. Valid, active PA Instructional II certification in Special Education, Early Childhood, Speech Correction, Elementary Education, Blind/Visual Impairments, Reading Specialist, Academic Core Instructional Certifications, or Deaf and Hard of Hearing, or State Licensure in Occupational or Physical Therapy, depending upon the specific position and posting.
3. Full certification in Safe Crisis Management (SCM), Safety Care, or other restraint management system as required by the assignment.
4. Unique experiences (depending upon the specific position and posting), including at least five (5) years successful experience working in an educational environment, the field of autism, with students with mental health or emotional issues, with eligible young children, in special education environments, in consultative models, as a community liaison having experience in diverse educational settings, or in a wide variety of service delivery models.
5. Strong verbal and written language skills.
6. Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
7. Ability to organize and conduct Functional Behavior Analysis (FBA).
8. Ability to provide training and consultation to clients.
9. Familiarity with Special Education rules and regulations.
10. Ability to build rapport with a wide variety of stakeholders.
11. Proficient computer skills and knowledge including use of Word, Excel, Outlook, and other software as may be required.

The Capital Area Intermediate Unit (CAIU) is one of 29 educational services agencies located throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Created in 1971 by an Act of PA legislature, IUs are intended to support and provide services to the schools and districts in the IU’s territory or “footprint.” The CAIU serves Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry, and northern York counties, which includes Harrisburg; hence the name “Capital Area.”

Located in Enola with classrooms and program locations throughout the region, the CAIU’s mission to achieve educational excellence with families, schools and communities through leadership, partnership and innovation.
