Educational Assistant IV - VisionThe educational assistant for the program of the visually impaired is primarily responsible for modifying materials to enhance instruction as requested by the Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments and working directly with students with visual impairments including blindness.
Must have a strong interest in learning braille and becoming certified either by the state of CO or the National Federation for the Blind within 3 years of employment.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Occasional lifting of forty (40) to seventy (70) pounds
• Frequent bending, standing, sitting, walking
• Occasional reaching, kneeling, bending, squatting, or standing
• Ability to run short distances
--- Assist with instruction of students under the direction of a certified teacher in a classroom setting, one-on-one, or in small groups.
--- Perform other related duties as assigned or as needed.
--- Ability to adapt ideas and concepts to clarify student understandings.
--- Effective working relationship with students, teachers, and other district staff.
--- Ability to explain information presented in a variety of ways.
--- Help ensure the safety of students with visual impairments.
--- Participation in professional development opportunities to advance skills.
--- Preparation of on-site materials.
--- Flexibility to work independently and collaborate as a team member.
--- Maintains and organizes the vision departments library of student tactile and large print books.
--- Prepare adapted material in a timely fashion as needed by students with visual impairments including blindness and Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments.
--- Document health related services in designated Medicaid documentation system for the DCSD School Medicaid Reimbursement Program as assigned.
High School or Equivalent (Required)
