About Us

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) is charged with implementing the state's public school laws for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public schools at the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education.

This position serves as part of the OCS team that develops and implements processes and procedures to support DPI’s administration of the system of charter schools in alignment with the state’s overall goals for public school students. The position’s work might include serving as an expert source of information regarding State charter school laws and SBE and federal policies, administering the charter application process or new- school planning process, developing frameworks for supporting and monitoring charter schools’ compliance (including, as part of the renewal process), staffing the CSRB and SBE, facilitating charter schools’ amendments to their charters, and collaborating across DPI and the wider charter schools community to ensure transparency regarding charter school operations.

The position may include occasional statewide travel. Consultants are placed into specific workflows and must be comfortable performing all duties and functions of the office.

Job Responsibilities:

Engage in daily work processes needed to complete specific workflows assigned to this position.

Engage in a variety of projects, professional development conferences and events, charter school application and renewal processes, planning processes for new schools, both compliance reviews, and materials needed for charter school Review Board and State Board of Education.

Communicate with various levels of agency personnel and external entities regarding OCS operations; charter school law, policy, and procedure; and other topics, as needed including site visits and presentations.

Establish clear prioritized process, project, and task deliverables and timelines for implementing various elements of the OCS scope of work.

Analyze data and reports that inform continuous improvement of OCS operations.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Recruitment Range: $63,927.00 - $82,560.00

Minimum Education and Experience

Master's degree in the education field to which assigned from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of specifically related experience in public education; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
