How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
The Education Interpreter delivers hands-on environmental, cultural heritage, nature, recreation, and renewable energy programs at The Village at Black Creek to visitors and visitor groups of TRCA/partner sites and facilities, as well potentially at client sites. The Education Interpreter plays an active role in customer experience ensuring all visitors have a positive experience.

Major Responsibilities:
• Educates VBC’s summer visitors by facilitating visitor/animal interaction in a livestock-focused activity area that uses heritage breed animals to illustrate the story of the Toronto region
• Delivers Livestock interactive programs for members of the public
• Supports daily animal care regimes and assists with animal behaviour management
• Guides and leads visitors and visitor groups to TRCA’s sites and facilities on established programs focused on environmental, cultural heritage, nature, recreation, and renewable energy (dependent on location)
• Learns program content to be able to effectively deliver interactive programs to various audiences
• Ensures program equipment/supplies including artifacts are well maintained, clean and stored appropriately
• Provides support in program development and administrative tasks as required
• Incumbents may also be assigned other duties

What will you need to succeed:

Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)
• Minimum pursuing a post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field

Experience
• Demonstrates basic-level knowledge of heritage breed livestock animals and their typical care regimens

Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies
• Ability to deliver programs/information to audiences of various ages, adapting style to ensure audience appropriateness
• Ability to communicate effectively with tact and courtesy
• Experience interacting and connecting with persons of various social, cultural, or economic backgrounds; at ease with a variety of audiences
• Strong communication skills to provide clear and concise communication in both non-emergency and emergency situations
• Able to self-manage workload and prioritize tasks independently
• Demonstrates responsiveness to internal and external customer requests and needs
• Able to comprehend written documentation and procedural guidelines
• Must be flexible to work all required shifts, including weekends and holidays

As this job is partly funded by a Canada Summer Jobs grant, to be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
• A youth between the ages of 15 – 30
• A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or persons who have been granted refugee status in Canada
