Purpose of Position
This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct annotated bibliographies and assist with literature review synthesis on campus climate, anonymous social media platforms, and digital equity discourse in higher education
- Screen and summarize existing campus climate survey instruments relevant to racial/ethnic climate, student belonging, and digital campus environments
- Assist in developing a mixed-methods survey instrument and focus group interview protocol, including item drafting, formatting in Qualtrics, and pilot testing
- Support survey recruitment and data collection at UND, including participant outreach and tracking response rates
- Perform data cleaning, variable coding, and dataset preparation for quantitative analysis
- Assist with preliminary descriptive and inferential statistical analyses under faculty supervision
- Support focus group logistics including scheduling, consent form management, and note-taking; may assist with transcription review and preliminary thematic coding
- Maintain organized project files, reference libraries (Zotero or similar), and research documentation throughout the project timeline
Required Competencies
- Familiarity with statistical software (R or SPSS) for basic data management and descriptive analysis
- Understanding of survey research methods, including Likert-scale design and data coding convention
- Ability to conduct systematic literature searches using library databases (e.g., PsycINFO, ERIC, Sociological Abstracts)
- Strong written communication skills for summarizing and synthesizing academic literature
- Awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion concepts as they relate to higher education and campus life
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and communicate proactively with the research team
Minimum Requirements
- Completion of at least one diversity- or equity-focused course (e.g., SOC 250 Diversity in American Society or equivalent)
- Completion of at least one quantitative or research methods course (e.g., introductory statistics, social science research methods)
- Interest in higher education, campus equity, or digital media research
- Personal experience using Yik Yak, Fizz, Sidechat, or a similar anonymous hyperlocal social media platform
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
