Being an Education Director at Devereux Pennsylvania Children's Services (DPACS) has its Advantages

As the Education Director you are responsible for providing on-site leadership and supervision for the school program. The Education Director engages their assigned school in a process of continual development to provide best-practice services to students with disabilities in compliance with all regulations from the PA Department of Education (PDE). Other responsibilities include but are not limited to Project Management, Fiscal Management, Compliance with PA State regulations governing Private Academic Schools and Approved Private Schools, recommending and implementing educational changes as necessary.

  • Compensation: $98,000-$111,720 /Year (Based on experience)
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday [52 week position]

Devereux’s Approved Private Schools offer high quality, innovative special education programs that work in tandem with families and school districts to ensure that students can return to their local schools and communities with the tools they will need to succeed. Children and young adults may come to Devereux as a day student, or as a part of residential treatment. Each student has an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP), which outlines goals for skill development and the best strategies by which the student can reach his/her goals. A multi-disciplinary team, including the individual’s parent(s) or guardian, regularly reviews the plan to discuss challenges, progress and adjustments to goals as appropriate. A multi-sensory educational strategy is used at all schools, employing traditional instruction, hands-on and independent learning, as well as technology, to individualize a student’s progress in all academic areas, particularly math and reading. The transition from school to career, and all of the necessary interrelated skills, are a main focus of the school program. A primary focus throughout the program is the philosophy of Program-Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PW-PBIS), a program-wide system of care that promotes and rewards positive behaviors, and prevents negative behaviors, to create safe, supportive living environments.

The Brandywine School located in West Chester, PA offers education curriculum to children functioning at all grade levels. Devereux Pennsylvania Children’s Services (DPACS) serves children, adolescents and young adults with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, behavioral, emotional and psychiatric challenges and disorders. Located in West Chester and Malvern Pennsylvania, services provided include psychiatric residential treatment (PRTF), acute inpatient psychiatric hospital (AIP), assessment services, community-based mental health services, community-based employment training and social skills training, and approved private school educational services to male and female children and adolescents (6-21 years of age) with diagnoses of intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, concomitant psychiatric and behavioral challenges often associated with experiencing some level of trauma in their lives.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Master’s degree in Education or Special Education required. Doctorate in Education or Special Education preferred. PDE Instructional or Education Specialist degree required. PDE Principal Certification or Special Education Supervisor certificate required.

EXPERIENCE: Five years’ experience in an educational setting with individuals with behavior disorders and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities. Five years’ experience working with children/adolescents with autism and/or autism spectrum disorders as well as experience in applied behavior analysis preferred. Experience supervising others in an educational setting. Strong organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and adjust to a flexible work schedule including nights and weekends as needed. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to lead large group meetings and interface with the public. Proficient computer skills, mastery of Microsoft Office Applications, experience with data collection/analyzing platforms (Radar, Pro-Filer, and/or other internal and external software applications pertinent to the position). Strong organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Requires ability to work independently, prioritize, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and adhere to established guidelines. Valid driver's license must be maintained.
