our buildings are complete. WHEDco believes that to be successful, affordable housing must be anchored in strong communities of which residents can be proud. WHEDco’s mission is to create and bridge access to resources in the South Bronx that support thriving neighborhoods – from high-quality early education and after-school programs, to fresh, healthy food, cultural programming, and economic opportunity. The Education Coordinator supports the development, implementation, and ongoing quality of academic programming within WHEDco’s Middle School After-School Program at The Highbridge Green School. The Education Coordinator oversees ELA, STEM, and homework support programming, ensuring that educational activities are engaging, developmentally appropriate, responsive to the needs and interests of participating youth, and aligned with WHEDco’s commitment to fostering curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.
The Education Coordinator directly supervises ELA and STEM Activity Specialists and supports their development as educators through collaborative planning, lesson-plan review, regular observations, coaching, modeling, and professional development. Working closely with program leadership and instructional staff, the Education Coordinator helps guide the academic curriculum and establishes consistent expectations for high-quality, hands-on learning experiences.
The Education Coordinator also strengthens homework support by training and coaching Group Leaders and Youth Workers in effective academic-support practices and promotes the integration of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) principles throughout educational programming.
In addition to providing academic leadership, the Education Coordinator supports general program supervision and operations, participates in weekly supervisory and program leadership meetings, and contributes to the ongoing professional development of program staff.
