As a Education and Public Programs Officer, you will:

  • Draw on a diverse range of people and groups across Deakin and its local communities to identify new or improved opportunities for engagement and/or collaboration, as well as develop and deliver a variety of programs, services and activities to further the aims of the Art Collection and Galleries Unit and promote it to a wide audience
  • Plan, prioritise and deliver work such as tours and public programs related to exhibitions, partnered organisations and the University Art Collection, recognise barriers to achieving outcomes, find effective ways to deal with them and evaluate progress
  • Plan and oversee all aspects of end-to-end projects and education programs to deliver sustainable outcomes, value within constraints of time, cost and quality
  • Understand and integrate perspectives held within different areas of the University and put plans in place to build collaboration and develop common goals with the faculties and other areas as they relate to the Unit activities

In a typical day/week, you will:

  • Coordinate and deliver exhibition tours, workshops and public programs for students, teachers and community groups
  • Liaise with Deakin faculties, academics and external arts organisations to build partnerships and collaborative projects
  • Schedule social media content, promotional materials and audience engagement campaigns
  • Research opportunities to expand audience engagement and improve participation across programs
  • Develop curriculum based exhibition resources and programs.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in the visual arts, education or other relevant areas and/or extensive experience in a similar role particularly relating to audience development and interaction.
  • Demonstrated experience working in an arts or cultural organisation in an audience development, education or public programs role and experience managing or facilitating a range of community, educational and/or cultural programs.
  • Experience in the use of social media and online technology.
  • Knowledge of the Victorian Secondary School Curriculum for the development of curriculum related programming. *(Desirable)
  • Experience as a secondary school teacher would be highly regarded; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
