Role Purpose
The ED/MD in Strategic Client Coverage serves as a senior banker responsible for shaping and driving strategic client agendas for market leading corporate, multinational clients, and financial sponsors. The successful candidate will lead C suite level advisory and structuring of high value, multi-product opportunities across lending, markets, and investment banking in order to enhance the level of the Bank’s most significant client relationship clients.
This role expects deep expertise in advisory and structuring in collaboration with coverage teams across OCBC’s network and with product groups in Global Investment Banking and Global Market divisions and with OCBC Group companies.
Key Responsibilities
A. Strategic Client Leadership
• Act as the trusted senior advisor to CEOs, CFOs, Treasurers, and Board level executives of key strategic clients.
• Lead the bank’s engagement strategy for top-tier or global relationships, including setting long-term client vision, strategic themes, and multi-year roadmaps.
• Oversee and drive complex, cross-product client engagements, and senior-level dialogues.
B. Commercial & Revenue Leadership
• Originate, structure, and execute high-impact deals across GCB, capital markets, M&A advisory, and risk management solutions.
• Oversee multi-product pitching strategies, ensuring coordinated delivery with global product partners.
• Drive significant revenue growth and wallet share capture, with accountability for annual financial targets and multi-year strategic ambitions.
• Identify white-space opportunities across geographies and product verticals.
C. Portfolio, Risk & Governance
• Provide senior oversight on credit, reputational, and regulatory risks across the managed portfolio.
• Lead strategic credit decisions, including deal structuring, recoverability analysis, and complex credit negotiations.
• Escalate and manage emerging risks; ensure compliance with internal governance, regulatory requirements, and market conduct standards.
• Sponsor key credit proposals and guide RMs in articulating risk-return trade-offs.
D. Team Leadership & Talent Development
• Lead, coach, and develop high-performing Coverage teams within GCB.
• Champion a culture of collaboration, disciplined execution, and client-centricity.
• Foster next-generation leadership talent within the coverage function.
• Serve as a senior escalation point for client, operational, or product issues.
E. Cross-Bank Collaboration & Franchise Building
• Drive alignment across regional or global coverage teams to deliver cohesive client strategies.
• Partner with product heads to develop bespoke financial structures and sector-led solutions.
• Advocate for client needs internally while balancing risk, returns, and franchise interests.
• Strengthen the bank’s brand and strategic positioning with key clients and industry bodies.
Essential
• 10/15+ years of experience in investment banking, strategic coverage, or capital markets.
• Demonstrated leadership of large or complex client relationships with proven revenue impact.
• Strong expertise across financing, markets, capital markets, and advisory solutions.
• Deep understanding of credit, market, and regulatory frameworks.
• Proven track record in leading cross-functional deal teams.
Preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related discipline.
• An MBA or relevant professional qualification (e.g., CFA) is advantageous.
• Experience leading regional or global client mandates.
• Strong knowledge of ASEAN/APAC markets and multinational client needs.
