About the Position

Dexis is seeking an Editorial Technician III to support a large-scale Army test and evaluation program. The project provides data collection, technical writing, computer operations, range scheduling, and administrative support services necessary to execute the government’s test mission. Support encompasses testing of a wide variety of automotive, combat, electronic, general equipment, and ordnance materiel, with services including data collection and coordination, data compilation and processing, development and management of data collection forms, test monitoring, technical writing and editorial review, reporting, data and software administration, range scheduling, and related operational support.

The Editorial Technician III provides advanced editorial support for technical publications, applying extensive familiarity with technical terminology, document formats, multimedia, and clarity of expression. The role verifies factual information, resolves inconsistencies with authors, identifies documents requiring major reorganization, and provides technical assistance on publications with varied styles and presentation requirements.

Work will be performed primarily onsite in Aberdeen, Maryland, with travel to other locations within the Continental United States (CONUS) and Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS) as required by mission needs. This position is contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities

  • Apply extensive familiarity with terminology, format, and clarity of expression to assist in preparing technical documents.
  • Interpret text to ensure consistency within documents.
  • Locate sources and verify factual information.
  • Demonstrate extensive familiarity with technical terminology, jargon, and multimedia formats.
  • Convert photo and graphic file formats and insert web links, photographs, graphics, and video files.
  • Identify inconsistencies between text and charts, tables, and other graphics.
  • Restructure sentences for clarity without altering the meaning of the text.
  • Contact authors to resolve inconsistencies in factual information.
  • Identify documents requiring major reorganization and bring them to the attention of the Technical Writing Leader.
  • Provide technical assistance to others on publications that differ in manner and style of presentation.
  • Proofread documents to verify that final copy is clear, concise, and error-free before submission.
  • Safeguard passwords and access to office computer files and programs.

Qualifications

  • Eight (8) years of experience as an Editorial Technician or Technical Writer; OR an Associate’s degree in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, Mass Communications, or Science and six (6) years of experience in technical writing or editing; OR a Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, Communications, Science, or Engineering and four (4) years of experience in technical writing or editing.
  • Must be proficient in the advanced functionality and tools of Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Must possess a high school diploma.
  • Must be proficient in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office software.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned functions, which may include working in extreme heat or cold, high humidity, blowing sand and dust, confined spaces, at heights, and walking distances over unimproved terrain while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Must be available to support work outside normal duty hours when required by mission needs.
  • Must be willing and able to travel within CONUS and OCONUS as required.
